Gas pipeline to Europe is the only thing that keeps Ukraine from being invaded.
Once alternative logistics will appear, Ukraine's only value will be as a sanitary buffer between Russia and NATO. This will require setting up a neutral regine these, by force, if required.
This will be task for the next Russian fuerer, not for Putin.
