The Swiss air force wants new fighter planes to replace the old F/A-18s, they are hesitating between Boeing's F/A-18E/F, Lockheed's F35, Saab's gripen, Dassault's rafale and the Eurofighter Typhoon. What should they pick and why ?

There is actually a lobby which tries to push to join the FCAS program.

So Eurofighter or Rafale are suddenly the top candidates.

Gripen, because it's smol and fits in their hangars.

yes the swiss have hangars hidden in mountains.

Thats fucking cool
But they could get super bugs to fit in there too if they fold the wings

Rafale

The Swiss are neutral, does it even matter?

They're good clockmakers, just make a spring-powered jet, lol

>buying low production jets that have no major upgrades funded

laughs in typhoon

F-35B would be a great fit for their short airfields and give and even better ability to take off from anywhere.

Nothing. They should just not have an air force and continue being the mountain jews they've always been. They have no need for an air force, everyone else ((((((western))))))))has their back.

Gripen or F-35.But they will pick neither because their people is a bunch of welfare addicted peaceniks.

F-35 for cost/benefit ratio, where else can you get a full capability gen 5 fighter for 85m a pop

how's that aesa update coming along?

Just fine? Not certain on your point.

Whether it entered before or soon, makes no difference to the timescale here. New Typhoons to exports come with AESAs now. See - Kuwait has AESAs on their ones being built now.

Plus CAPTOR is a superior radar anyway in most situations. only a small selection of scenarios where an AESA is actually better than a normal phased array.

F35 for sure

F35 or rafale depending on who will pay more to the officials

Sure pal

You do realise those tests are hilariously outdated and were never representative of anything, right?

The Typhoon used was IPA3, a pre-production model, and a Luftwaffe owned one at that, who infamously have the most downgraded and gimped version of the Typhoon available.

Hell the feedback there is obvious to see. Air policing lacking things? Well duh, IPA3 never had the data-fusion that the main models have, and German ones don't have an IRST. DCA and OCA problems? Duh, Germany doesn't fit the full DASS model (it doesn't even have the towed decoy).

Recce? Again, Germany had no targeting pods at that time, it took them till last fucking year to buy any.

Air to ground? Again, German ones had none.

tl;dr - Thats comparing a pre-production gimped model that had no features enabled on it.

Test is so beyond outdated now that it's hilarious fanboys like to try and still use it. By that logic it's like saying the Leclerc is shit tier because of its pre-production model's awful performance in the Swedish tank tests.

Speaking of the MRCA competition that this came from.

Indian government finished their audit and found out Dassault Bribed the generals in charge to draw up specifications tailored for Rafale

The Taiwanese FUCK-1

It would replace the F-5 perfectly

Swiss? LOL. Who literally GAF? They're irrelevant. I guess whatever country you're from that makes one of the planes, you would recommend, since that'd help your economy but its negligible.

This is probably the best time to buy the F-35, since it's about to hit $80m in the next couple years. Then the price will likely start going back up at that point after stagnating for a bit.

lol @ that comparison

They compared the legacy Gripen, which wasn’t even offered.

What a piss poor looking airplane, almost as bad as the sino-paki shit JF-17

>tfw this is my fetish

Flyaway cost is not the only determinator in plane cost. Citing just the flyaway is basically pointless and tells nothing about the actual cost of acquirement.

Fuck you, Chang!

A true man lf culture

F35

Care to elaborate on that? I mean LPI for one is a huge advantage.

Not him, I doubt there's much can be said. CAPTOR is much better than might be expected for its "format". And Selex ES has stated it outperformed the PESA version of RBE-2 once, but the AESA version of the RBE, no idea, so I dunno what he's talking about other than us knowing that Captor has a crapton more power running through it.

Captor-E though is pretty indisputably better. It's larger, more powerful, more t/r modules, and it's traversable (which is a HUGE advantage).

The Swiss armed forces want the Rafale. It's not just the aircraft they want but also the tied in agreement to use French training infrastructure and airspace. The last government wanted the Grippen to cut cost. The population previously sided with the armed forces and shot down the Grippen deal in a referendum. My bet is on the Rafale referendum this time around.

They should get the FA-50
>it's cheap
>it's more than suitable for their needs (shooting down airliners)
>it's also a very compact jet

CAPTOR E has lower sidelobes, better duty cycle, better signal modulation and better frequency hopping by firtue of being a bigger radar.

Captor also has superior air to ground mods with a SAR feature.

The only things RBE2-AA can do better is tracking more air targets while scanning and doing that while in the presence of heavy jamming.
