How would Jow Forums make a realistic and grim apocalyptic game that isn't kiddy shit like fallout today?

Open world
Weather with effects on gameplay weapon handling etc
Enemy's more challenging than generic zombie or irradiated psychos
Some sort of fortification building /vehicle creation
Enemy's in large variety that get more difficult to kill
Realistic character damage /broken arms legs etc
Random paranormal map effects/situations
Chaos demon portals that open and spew large quantities of enemies into "conquered" or previewed safe landscapes at random.
Ground Traps and weapon creation

That hypothetical game would come out being some hyper-edgy un-fun schlock that no one would play. I'm all for realism in my games but there's a point where it stops being a game and becomes a complete waste of time.

I wouldn't, because apocalyptic games are as overdone as developers have stated WW2 games are. It's too stale a theme, it needs to be retired for a while so people can come up with something good.

People will still have caches of working ammunition and arms in the decades following a collapse/apocalypse. Metro is ridiculous in the idea that they simply throw away the huge stores of Kalashnikovs, Makarovs, Tokarevs, and Mosins in favor of scrapyard Khyber Pass wannabes. Warlord cliques are gonna be everywhere, large scale conflict would be uncommon. Transportation would be mostly animal or manual (bikes/push railcarts) unless you control an area that can produce and refine oil. The biggest thing that no developer ever covers is how quiet things would be for large swathes of flyover country.

Read The Road, One Second After, and Lights Out and then begin your ideas for your game. Of course, basing your game ideas from these three books would either produce the most boring game ever or the best game ever, depending on how you make the story and gameplay function, of course.

If graphics and ease of access aren't something you care about, C:DDA already exists.

The possibilities is limitless if we take the ideas that op posted and just work it out better and besides if you want a good apocalyptic game then you gotta take human nature and the horrors from the apocalypse into account because when shit hits the fan then everyone won't be constrain anymore and humanity will become animalistic in that world. Also the male and female pros and cons is a good idea since females are genetically weaker and less intelligent compared to males which are genetically stronger and smarter but the males do not have high charisma while females do due to them being candy eye to everyone.

You're comparing an arcade shooter in an annual series to a hypothetical "realistic" post-apocalyptic game because it's "dark" and "gritty" or whatever. Look, friend, the closest you're gonna get is a game called Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. It's an asskey game, yeah, but it lets you do everything you've listed (even has mod support). Go play that for your edgy "dark and gritty" fantasies.

Im not trying to be edgy but of course i used the comparisons of two arcade games because those two while same company made games, have two vastly different takes on the "war" setting. I'm just saying that fallout one was a good game that takes on a real approach to human nature in a shit hit the fan scenario and fallout four practically is a kiddy made game so no one get their feelings hurt and there is too much sunshine and lollipop shit and happy music that basically kills the whole "apocalyptic world" idea. What I’ve always wanted is a very esoteric and probably unfun game for 95% of gamers.

>open world, literally an entire planet like star citizen, or at least as big as Fuel
>semi post apocalyptic, perhaps 7-10 years after a worldwide super ebola pandemic kills 80% of the population and the complete collapse of society ensues
>NPCs present and give missions
>large areas can be claimed by player and farmed/developed
>land/air/sea vehicles
>ability to craft weapons, supplies, clothing, refine fuel, grow food
>carry system based on physical stats and equipment
>player must zero weapons
>player must reload magazines
>player can only carry as many mags as will fit in carrier or pockets
>random weapon malfunctions with wolf/steel cased ammo 3/1000 rounds, 1/5,000 brass if kept perfectly clean, odds go up as weapon dirtiness increases.
>stamina, health, morale system, good/drink and possibly nutrition

Basically, you’d be so busy trying to survive you’d never get to launch an attack on randos or make good alliances. Still. I want it.

Also, ability to spare, execute, crucify, rape prisoners.

What would be fun, at least for me, is a warlord simulator where you have the ability to recruit procedurally generated NPCs, and give them commands in battle.

So you could have absolutely massive, tactically sophisticated firefights, and have to deal with the massive logistical and political struggles of getting a large enough group together to beat up your neighbors.

It would be like tribal mode in Spore, but the command system would be a mix of Wargame and SWAT 4.

Be interesting game to play if this actually does get made by everything that is suggested by op
