I'm getting a type 99 next. My wife is half japanese and I want to put one up on the wall.
What should I pay for an example w/ intact mum, matching serials, minimal pitting, and maybe even a dustcover? Serial on dust cover doesn't matter

I just thew a bid on a Type 38 carbine so we'll see how that goes, otherwise I don't have japsurp yet :(

How far would you drive for the prospect of a good deal on a rifle?

How good a deal are we talking?

Attached: 1471743787901.gif (480x479, 263K)

Under market value. There's a nice MAS 36 at a small auction that's a four hour roundtrip from me. There are a few other things as well that I might buy to resell to help cover my gas.It is an auction, though, and the chance of leaving empty-handed makes me nervous.

If you think it's a good deal and you want it bad enough, go for it. Don't let your dreams be dreams...

You know what? I'm just foolish enough to do it.

Do it.

Your typical Type 99 that is missing it's dust cover and monopod and maybe the AA sight wings, is around $300ish. Maybe a little more. The more original things you have the higher they sell for.

A couple of things of note, an intact "mum" is not rare, about half have them intact. They do tend to sell faster though. An intact "mum" adds only a little value unless the gun is exceptional in other ways. Dust covers don't add much value unless they are matching. A matching dust cover is uncommon to find.

Attached: IMG_0046.jpg (1940x622, 289K)

The mum adds 50$ as a general rule of boomer shit I’ve heard

That's about right. Unless, like I said, it's something exceptional. A rare series, or just in a series that most seem to be ground (late war Type 99s are almost exclusively ground) and it increases it's value a lot more. Even one that is all original condition and the bluing in excellent shape, an intact mum will increase it's value a lot. Type 44s with intact mums also tend to go for more since most Type 44s have ground mums.

I drove about 4 hours each way for pic related. $700 IIRC.

6.5

6.5.

Attached: 20180311_092531.jpg (4032x869, 2.32M)

Oh, I got a Long Berthier. Trigger is quite nice, shame the sights aren't conducive to accuracy.

Attached: 20190319_193413.jpg (3820x826, 2.03M)

what's wrong with the sights? You talking about the giant front sight post?

Attached: hon hon hon.jpg (4032x3024, 3.89M)

Yup. Good enough for a general infantry rifle but I want to be able to stretch her legs out on the range now and then.

Attached: 20190319_193500.jpg (3966x1089, 3.07M)

Owning a type 38 and a type 99, I can say 6.5 is way funner to shoot.

I got a 99 with mum and AA sights for about 300 a couple of months ago. That was a good price and not really the norm these days (fuds here will give you 2004 prices) just lurk on gunbroker.

Does anyone have any tips for refinishing a Type 99 stock to get it looking as original as possible?

doesn't the front sight post have a narrower notch for finer shooting though?

Attached: reee quatro get out.jpg (720x696, 122K)

Are you talking about refinishing an original stock or one already messed with? You shouldn't do the former and the latter is hard.

The latter. Picked up a decent condition Type 99 for $150 but bubba got to the stock. Ugly stain and some terrible poly coating. Need to fix it but no idea how.

Looking at an M38, the seller has listed matching numbers for bolt, receiver and stock. How many serials should an M38 have, an as such, how many is it missing?

An M38 what? Mauser, Mosin, Carcano, Arisaka?

Attached: M38_C.jpg (1024x573, 449K)

Sorry, M38 Mauser, a Husqvarna. Running on four hours sleep, my bad.

Mine (Husqvarna 1941) is numbered on the receiver, barrel, bolt body, bolt shroud, cocking piece, safety, firing pin, stock, handguard, and buttplate. My m/96 has many more parts serial'ed.

Attached: SwedeM38_07-26-2018_A.jpg (1600x753, 1.15M)

Thanks for the quick and thorough response, user. That's a beautiful rifle.

Ok, I'm tossing a coin here between an M39 for basically market rate in my country, or the Husqvarna M38 I mentioned above for about a 30% discount on market rate. Is one or the other an obviously better choice, lads?

I would argue that the Mauser is a better choice. One nice thing the m/39 has going for it is its sights; they are a nice square front post and square-or-U-shaped rear notch, which are much better than most Mauser triangle front post and V-notch rear sights IMO. However, the Swede Mausers have square front posts and square notch rear sights that are just as good as the Finnish sights.

Attached: SwedeM38_03-07-2019_ebelskiver_A.jpg (1200x800, 518K)

They're both fine guns. Is one more matching/ in much better condition? If not, it's hard not to recommend the mauser.

Attached: 20181028_134907-3024x1470.jpg (3024x1470, 1.38M)

The Finn is matching, the Mauser is at least matching bolt/receiver/stock but I'll have to enquire as to the rest of the numbers.

Anyone here own a repro "trench" mag for a Mauser 98? How are they?
Tempted to buy one but they're almost 100€ here, need to know if they're quality at least

Attached: family.jpg (4608x2135, 2.01M)

>Anyone here own a repro "trench" mag for a Mauser 98?
Ye.
>How are they?
Mediocre. You might have to do a lot of hand-fitting to mount it on anything other than a Gew.98. Also use your regular follower; the repro one is junk.

Attached: IMG_1137.jpg (1600x1200, 1018K)

Sounds alright, thanks. I'll get one for my 98K and see how it fits. If it works well enough I might get a second one for the Modelo 1935

In theory but mine is mashed over from use.

Attached: 20190319_193436.jpg (4032x917, 2.59M)

Post pics first. It may just be easier to knock off the shine of the poly.

Does anyone have any information on getting into mausers? I want to get into the entry-level and don't really care where they're made or getting a historically significant example.

Asked this in qtddtot because I missed this thread.

What's the most patrician milsurp bolt action rifle that ammo is still common for and isn't exorbitantly expensive (read can be bought in Walmart).

I was thinking M1903A3, but are there others? Possibly something in .308?

>isn't exorbitantly expensive
>can be bought at Walmart
user...

How much you get it for?

Attached: Berthier M16 profile.jpg (4000x1128, 461K)

There's not really an "entry-level" Mauser, it depends on your budget. Some are more expensive than others due to rarity and service history but they're not necessarily better intrinsically
I don't know about the US but here 6.5x55 SE is fairly cheap at 0.69 a pop, widely available, and a full length Swede M96 is pretty fucking patrician

I meant ammo which is commonplace enough that a Walmart would carry, such as 30-06, or .308. Not the rifle itself.

For anything you can run in a 'surp, Walmart's prices are never good. My local one carries overpriced Tula 54R, though.

Browsing gun broker I see Swedish and Yugos around $600-700. That seems about what I'd want to pay.

Why aren't you capable of buying online? Why can't you go to a big box sporting store? Oh well. For 30-06 you can go with M1903, M1917, M1 Garand, one of those FN 30-06 mausers. Israeli mausers are in 308, FR-8 can take .308 too. Most others are 7.62 NATO and its potentially not too bright to shoot .308 in them. All those are under $1,000

I do buy online, but I like being able to have the ability to just grab some for impromptu range trips.

>Most others are 7.62 NATO and its potentially not too bright to shoot .308 in them.
Fuddlore that refuses to die.

Love the color on your M38. How much you pay for it?

Attached: Turk M38 profile.jpg (3000x799, 1.13M)

Picked this KAR98A up yesterday. Matches to the screws

Attached: 20190320_121314.jpg (4024x862, 2.32M)

Should I get one of the Chinese SKS's from sweaty ben?

Do not buy anything from SB ever

Why? I bought a Makarov on sale from him once. Never had a issue with it.

I'm glad you got lucky, but there are hundreds of cases where "very good" "hand selected" surplus rifles were rusted out pipes with no refunds, or where "chrome" yugo tokarevs were spray painted silver with, again, no refunds

nice
how much?

>Chrome tokarevs
I saw one bought from some other company that was like that. Maybe it was the slavs doing that?
>Rusted out pipes
True, they claim they only do hand select by the 10 rifles or guns. So, if they are all shit. you still get shit.

Hey guys, I have a spanish mauser that was a attempted sporter project. But he only took on some bluing on the barrel.
But, he did strip the stock. But decided to not go threw with it. And attempted to redo the stock with BLO. It looks weird as fuck.
Any ideas on how to restore this?

>tokarevs
Yeah it was definitely the Slavs doing it, some exporter spray painted regular Toks and claimed they were the """presidential guard"" chromed toks, but Classic knew that and misrepresented it

My issue with them is extremely "generous" or misrepresentative grading, and terrible, terrible customer service

Yeah, that's gay.
That is true, they do misrepresent.
I hope the Chinese ones are decent, I really want one, but can't find one that isn't over 500 and otherwise a sporter.
Fuck bubba.

I'm starting to suspect that the some of the "winners" of their contests hailing from Pig Holler, Alabama may not be real people

Explain?

625

>How much you pay for it?
$100 with bayonet. An absolute dog.

Attached: M24-47_&_M38_11-28-13_D.jpg (1280x960, 847K)

>$100
I'm gonna kill myself sooner or later from the lack of good deals. How do you bros get these deals?

Time travel back to 2010 or earlier

I...
*Muffled crying*
Fuck boomers, Fuck buba and fuck import laws.

>Takoyaki
I love you, user

I know you guys like Swede 96s and M38s. How do you guys feel about a Spanish Mauser 1916 short rifles? I'm on the fence with one with air force markinga for about $600.
For the record I have an M96 and it's my favourite bolt rifle.

What are the GPA requirements to get into OCS? Also, I heard you can't pick your branch unless you're at the top of the class? Is that true?

Damn, I thought I did ok by getting my Public Security SKS for $375 shipped (plus transfer fees, but meh).

I did experiment a bit but I couldn't seem to dull the poly to any extent without starting to remove it. I did try sanding it away gently but unfortunately it's stubborn and sticks in the grooves of the wood, leaving it with streaks of shine. The stain is also pretty dull under it. Here's a pic contrasting the handguard (untouched) with the front of the stock (poly "removed").

Attached: 20190320_175349 - Copy.jpg (1700x2266, 981K)

Really not that nice of a rifle folks; it's a rough ex-Gew.98 and can't hit shit.

Attached: M38_bore_slug_diameter.jpg (1024x685, 303K)

What books are those?

6.5

Attached: arisaka.jpg (640x480, 164K)

>Yugo mauser
>600
fuck no, 400 tops

Sweaty Bubba must REALLY like them at the price he is pushing them for. Word is they are Sino-Albanian in a couple of the forums and they appear to be in meh shape.

I would like to find a nice unbubba'd Russian one.

>fundamentals of Astrodynamics
>fundamentals of flight
>fundamentals of Aerodynamics
Aerospace engineering textbooks.

$375.

>tfw I want either a Swedish Mauser or a Type 38
>tfw I also want a handgun for CC because I turn 21 in just over a month
>can only afford one
It hurts being a college poorfag. I'm thinking of donating plasma just to have enough money for both.

How much can you get for donating?

Post waifu and raifu.

Attached: YuuriCollection.jpg (2419x2622, 1.09M)

I think it's like $50-$75 per donation. It depends on where you go. I heard it takes about an hour though but still, surp money is surp money.

Does the CMP tell you in any way once they've received your order form and are processing it? Its been almost two weeks now and I haven't heard a thing, either in email or letter form.

Can someone explain to me what all the differences between a Beretta 92S and an M9/92FS are? Besides the magazine release obviously. It looks like the front sight is machined into the slide.

>machined into the slide
It is the slide. It's carved out I believe.
And is non replaceable.
Also, it's missing... The indicator? For if you have a round chambered? (I only have a 92s)

Yep, surp money is surp money.
I'll probably do it. Actually giving my blood for surp.
What have I become?

Oh shit nice I start my aerospace engineering major in a few months nice gun too user

>What have I become?
My closest friend

Anyone got a link to the discord?

Thanks
Why the fuck did the old one die

Attached: 4c1.jpg (624x474, 24K)

Probably because we even dared to mention NZ

it is a mystery

Good, now I have this thing called a friend.
I never use Discord. Because Discord is gay.
Did you guys really get banned for that?

Well the arg Discord got banned at the same time so maybe it was a gun server purge

Be ready to suffer. I hope you like vector field calculus and using Matlab/Mathematica.
