Why is a helmet like these guys wear impractical as part of an actual soldiers kit? Full face shield, air ventilation(i assume), communication interface that can help hearing during battle, big visor so your vision isnt impeded, probably can display usefull stuff on the visor, etc. It all sounds easily doable with todays technology and seems reasonably affordable for elite troops so how come no one on the planet uses something similar?
I remember reading something about pressure from explosions causing situational problems with full face helmets but surely that cant be it.

Dunno why I hadnt thought of that, sounds like you'd need special rifle stocks to do it effectively. Though I suppose if you really wanted there could be some form of assisted aiming via a computer interface but now its sounding a little more expensive and isnt gonna work without specialized weapons too. I could see something like this working with a laser or radar type interface on the gun that links up with the helmet, or maybe even a camera to display point of aim, but displaying that accurately enough might be difficult and overly complex for too little benefit.

Things like that can be done, but they aren't really worth it. Like it was said before, a helmet like that is heavy on the neck, and unless you have some sort of exoskeleton to support it, the soldier will take it off every time it has the chance and might even exchange it for a conventional one.

They barely had enough resources to keep Innies at bay before the war with the covies, and they were only beaten due to their religious practices and the great schism.
The Imperium has an even greater technological advantage, equivalent tactical expertise, and a totally "unified" fighting force.
Any disadvantaged they might have due to their own religious practices are far outweighed by their strengths.
The USNC would get destroyed in any prolonged war with the Imperium of Man.
Not to mention the literal legions of Space Marines that put any Spartan (The UNSC's ace in the hole) to shame in terms of combat effectiveness.
