Body Armor

looking into rifle plates. Is there anything wrong with AR500? I keep looking up videos of them and they seem really good for the price they're asking.

are ceramics legitimately better?

infinitely. Steel is better than nothing, but it's still terrible in every way compared to ceramic.

what are some good ceramic plates then, are the AR500 level III and IV ceramics any good, what other companies make the good shit.

Do you have a fantasy or only being shot once? Buy steel plates and let the ceramic shitposters cry somewhere else

Ceramic plates are good but only if you're a woman who can't carry STEEL plates. Steel plates can take a beating and will absorb more rounds than weak ceramic platelets.

RMA and Hesco are good quality, but you need to look around and get a feel for the market.

>what is dispersion
>what are multihit ratings

Ceramic is better all-round, and UHMWPE is lighter. Steel is for targets.

steel is heavy as hell, ceramic is not.
steel is cheap, Ceramic is hella not cheap.
steel will stand up to more than a single event. Ceramic will not.

If you can only afford one set of plates, get steel. if you have a budget equivalent to a police force or military unit, get ceramic or better (rumors of nano-carbon tubes).

if you are actually going to wear it, then just get some kevlar.

>implying griffonshit is $500
>implying I'd buy it if it was $50

>steel will stand up to more than a single event. ceramic will not.
>steel brainlets actually believe this

Most ceramic is rated for 6 hits in accordance with NIJ III.

>penetration after being used as a literal target for years

yeah, should have used a ceramic plate ;-)

Had a guy in my company who took three 7.62x39mm point-blank to his front SAPI on a previous tour, no penetration. Broke a couple ribs, but otherwise fine.

Outside of persons known, there is also this guy.

>not counting the 11 rounds stopped by his body armor.

Unless you're trying to redo the North Hollywood Shootout, ceramic works just fine.

>6 hits before it crumbles and is useless
wow amazing good job!
Everyone clap for the ceramic boys!

Ceramics
>twice the price of steel
>lighter
>same exact performance in plates that cost noticeably more otherwise they disintegrate after 2-3 shots
Steel
>same performance for less
>heavier
>will literally outlive you

Spend more money just to be lighter ceramics fags will cite all kinds of sources on why ceramics are “better” but performance wise there isn’t a lot of difference steel is better in all areas including cost

>Is there anything wrong with AR500?

Certain loads will zip right through it (like m193 out of a 20" barrel) and it's also heavy as fucking shit

have an image, courtesy of AR500's website

Spall coating on steel won't last much more than that.
If you're being hit that many times something is terribly wrong anyway.

>after 6 shots the spray-on pickup bedliner """spall coating""" is gone.
>Next shot splashes perpendicular to the plate, sending molten lead straight into your throat and carotid artery. You bleed out in minutes instead of seconds.
Steel a shit.

Market is better now, Hesco makes all sorts of military industrial complex shit, I'd trust them to have their shit together.

Anyone have the body armor sticky?

>Is there anything wrong with AR500?
Just that it will spall and mutilate your face if not outright kill you

my hands are kinda sticky ;)

What about titanium plates?

they're basically PE without the thickness.

This is misleading. M193 penetrated AR500 lvl III+ when shot from a 20” barrel.

There are cheaper functional ones on the market.
