20mm Anti-Air

Hey fellow Jow Forumsammandos. Had some questions about a recent find in my grandfathers house. He is a pacific war vet, was on anti air gun during his service, think that is the reason I found this. He is dead so I can’t ask questions and I am in his house alone. What should I do?

Oh shit, that things live

Yes, I hear powder in it

Well, duh? His grampa wasn't no pussy, and prostate orgasms just aren't the same with a dummy round.

That also means I shuck it back and forth. Bad idea.

Not a dummy, has powder

Use it to cast another shell and find a way to shoot the repro every year on the 4th of july
Make sure theyre blanks though, otherwise you may have a few problems

Make sure you don't have any hammering to do. Because apparently the temptation to use a live shell from as an ersatz hammer is overwhelming. People literally can't stop themselves.

Good find user.

Literally make a cheapo 20mm with pipes and a endcap and hammer. Or microwave it for lolz

Bad idea.
My neighbor has a fucking drone he keeps flirting in my yard. Think I found a target.

Also found other goodies

Its a 20x138B solothurn. I have a live one too. Got it from a surplus store and i basically extorted the guy for it since he wasnt allowed to sell live ammo

I don’t know if that helps, don’t know much about German stuff.

Found another one, can’t find it in all the clutter. Looks similar to pic

Calling it that user's great uncle was in the SS.

That is not a 20x138 Solothurn - it is a US 20x110mmRB Oerlikon Mk2. See the second in my photo for comparison. The rebated rim is a giveaway for this one even without the headstamp.

The Solothurn cartridge has a belted case.

Ah didnt notice the rebated rim.

mfw u can't miss a joke any harder.

Miss read post. Posted reply. Reread post, realized my retardation. Found post funny.

Good call Frankie

That crate is postwar. .30 Mk4z Ball was a British version of the US .30 M2 Ball. It was in service from 1957-1993. Looks like that crate is dated 19 September 1968.

I’m thinking a 1919 is hiden some where based of this.

Holy fucking shit that's a lot of black tip. I'm jelly user.

and tracers as well, fuck man that's worth some serious cash.

Any places Jow Forums recommends I should look for the guns? I know he had some but I have never seen them. Only ever heard mention of his favorites mixed in with comments that would make Jow Forums proud.

That’s just what’s linked, found boxes of tracers and AP. A few lose blue tipped rounds, no fucking idea what those are.

Blue tipped .30-06 is incendiary.

Smells like war-crime fun-time if you ever shoot those. Imagine hunting and getting some cooked meat on demand. Pretty good.

I should have included this photo with the comment.

Ammo related thread hijack since you're here and haven't seen you in a bit.
What do you know of .303 MkIV?
How about Canadian production of cupro-nickle 30-06? Also have one Dominion round labeled for factory defense. Looks like a MkIV but the jacket is not pierced for hollowpoint, only has an indent. Any ideas?

I have a buddy who collects british amo. What do you want to know? I can ask him and post the reply.

The US government let a contract to Dominion in 1918 for M1906 Ball cartridges. I have a few which have a large Berdan primer, cupronickel jacket and a DAC 18 headstamp.

Mark IV was the second-to-last hollow point variation but it suffered from the cores blowing through the jacket as the base was open. This was corrected in the Mark V by hardening the lead with antimony. I'd like to see photos of the cartridge in question before I speculate on its origin. If your case has a 'IV' headstamp and a full jacket bullet, it's possible it was a case leftover that had not been loaded before the MkIV was withdrawn from service - also possible it was reloaded.

Mark IV and V hollow points were made in both England and Canada - I have examples of each of these and a full packet of Canadian MkV.

The US did production runs for the British in WWI?

It's a regular looking round but the headstamp only reads .303. Has an indent in the nose same diameter as the hollowpoint onthe MkIV. Have a few others the same but in gilding jackets with Dominion headstamps, looks like they were sporting ammo.
Bough a partial draw set a while back and it had some jackets and bullets that did not match British ammo so was wondering if Canada made 30-06 for a military order.

And the picture

Where did you find them?

Yes. Remington-UMC, Peters, USCCo and Winchester made .303 MkVII under contract during WWI for England.

Oh, that's the 'pneumatic bullet' that Dominion used.

Apparently can;t post phone pics tonight. The factory defense one is cupro nickle
Auctions over the years. Have a mostly complete draw set of .303 and a bunch for the bullets.

Thanks. Had never even heard of it before.

My next question would be - is it a .303 British or a .303 Savage?

I thought it was only small lots, the more you know.

Stamped British.

Attic

Good Jow Forumsommando

OH SHIT YEAH

Found a luger boys

Closets and under the bed.

Possible a hidden safe room in the house, check the walls for hidden spaces.

Please

If you've got trees, tie string to the branches and watch it crash if it gets too close.

The Luger was in case hidden in coat closet. Baesed off amo I’m finding should be a 1919, M1, or 1903 Springfield. 30 carbine so a m2 carbine is some where. 45 ACP so a 1911. Then other small amounts of random ammo, hunting rifles and shotguns.

M1 carbine*

post pics please

Personally, wouldn't shoot something that nasty through any bore I own.
But pretty cool, just don't hit the primer with a hammer.
Got some nice stuff there user.

Says 1918 so not a nazi Luger. Wonder where the hell he got it. Seems all the numbers match including the mag.
