Because they need aircraft. Because it's not vaporware. Because it's a available and able to be bought. Because it's multirole and as a two seater it can do both strike and recon. Because the Indian Congress is lobbying for an F-22/F-35 style plane because that's what's popular on the web today. The Su-57 is a multi role that is not really a fit for the current Indian doctrine, which is a shitfest, and the doctrine itself can make do with the Rafale. Remember that Russia's main air superiority still is the S-400, which follows tanks as they rush to the nearest enemy airfield. The Su-57 is just an optional patrol craft above a SAM umbrella. And that is bad for Bollywood machoism. Not to mention Tech Transfer for Make in India. Imagine the rats.

Because the Rafale is better then anything Pakistan is likely to field for the next decade. Plus the Rafale has been in service for nearly 2 decades so they know it works.

Think about it. Pilots are essentially a waste of space. Oxygen, g-force limited, burns a fair amount of weight, expensive, compromises design choices.

It's not like they do anything anyway. Siting targets? Usually, the target coordinates are emailed to the plane in flight, or there's lasing or some shit. AI will do a faster, better job.
