Realistically, it would cover you up to a certain amount. If a trial got too costly, they are allowed to back out, then you'd have to pay out of pocket to continue it. This is still better than having nothing at all from the get-go.

You'd buy a CX4 since it's non restricted and can legally use it outside of a range
