Theres a reason those units earned distinction and were trusted to go to combat in that time period, dumbass. That said about US Army units, the 7th ID played a large role in Operation Just Cause and also assisted in the LA Riots. Unit was deactivated in the mid-2000s.

A lot of dead kids. Mostly from disease (cholera, malaria, tuberculosis, even typhus) and starvation. Some from the gun battles that periodically erupted and we had to clean up the mess from or got involved in ourselves.
The actual combat didn't affect me all that much emotionally. But there's something about seeing a girl half-dead from Typhus from that makes you want to curl up into a ball and cry.
I took a overnight Amtrak train down to see my parents for Thanksgiving after I got back. I spent much of the trip locked up in my room sobbing.

I served in 193rd Infantry and 10th Mountain and can honestly say that both outfits were pretty good.
The biggest complaint I had about being in the 10th Mountain was that my platoon had a half-dozen jackasses who were always blaring fucking White Power music like Skrewdriver, Johnny Rebel, or Tom Metzger's Race and Reason talk show where he does nothing but shout about "muh niggers" in the barracks at 3AM. And the officers did not care.

Well in my case, I was somewhat of a Waffen-SS/Wehraboo as teenager so it was more my grandfather's war. I actually liked the newer PASGT helmet for that reason, but yeah, a lot guys initially complained about how it looked like a Nazi helmet until it proved its worth in combat.
