Apparently she was part of an observation post and sleeping inside a tent at 1 AM. The IFV was retreating and decided to go through a small hill of snow. This hill of snow contained the observation guys and woman inside the tent.The men got out undamaged but the woman died.

No. Forcing Swedish grammar onto tank for definitive plural gives you "tanksen".
Att armén har valt att använda ena termen gör inte att den andra helt plötsligt slutar vara korrekt. Med tanke på att stridsvagn like gärna kan vara en hästdragen sak från sen bronsålder så är t.o.m. något mindre tvetydigt. Och armén gör lustiga saker med språket ibland, så vi ska nog inte fästa allt för stor vikt vid va de kallar saker annat än om vi för stunden är i armén.
English summary: just because the army chose one word out of the two doesn't mean the other one ceases to mean what it does. An the army also gave us "nordvästersjökustartilleriflygspaningssimulatora nläggningsmaterielunderhållsuppföljningssystemdiskussionsinläggsförberedelsearbeten", so we probably shouldn't let them define our language to any greater degree anyway.

The panzer in basically all german tanks is shorthand for panzerkampfwagen.
Panzerkampfwagen = armoured(or armour) fighting wagon (meaning vehicle, but I guess it could include armoured chariots)
So stridsvagn (Fighting Wagon) or pansarvagn (armoured wagon) is almost literary what they would be saying
