>“Quantum physics says that if you create a pair of entangled photons by splitting the original photon with a crystal, a change to one entangled photon will immediately affect its twin, regardless of the distance between them,” the paper states.
>“A quantum radar, generating a large number of entangled photon pairs and shooting one twin into the air, would be capable of receiving critical information about a target, including its shape, location, speed, temperature and even the chemical composition of its paint, from returning photons.”
You hear that ameriflaps? Impossible to deflect, chaff won’t work on it. The second it hits you they will know every single aspect about your plane including what color it is. What is the b-2 without stealth? A subsonic flying target. What is the f-35 without stealth? An absolute lemon, slow with poor range. America has to buy a fleet of stealth tankers now because they were too dumb to realize that the carriers have to stay really far away from China unless they want to get btfo by a land based barrage of Hypersonic Anti-Ship missiles, and normal tankers will get btfo by the J-20 Mighty Dragon specifically designed for hunting AWACS and tankers with modern long range air to air missiles that America no longer has because they retired the aim-54 and didn’t bother to replace it. These stealth tankers will also be worthless with quantum radar. America invested all their effort into advanced stealth aircraft and massive carriers and now they are useless.
This should be especially alarming in the context of the recent RAND report where America LOSES World War 3 to Russia and China in simulations.
Uh, just make the next stealth plane look like a bird?

Beryllium liquid crystal You literally can’t deflect quantum radar. There are two photons. One hits the plane and bounces. The second twin photon kept nearby you bounces in the exact same manner. By observing what happens to the nearby photon you can learn everything about the plane. U.S. bet everything on stealth and failed.
China already has a proven working prototype. Within 5 years the technology will be matured and in active deployment. Stop with the pathetic cope, it’s over.
that is also why they canceled the J-31 program. Why uses an inferior air frame with practically no stealth

America should have seen this coming. If I was Russia or China and I learned about U.S. stealth planes I would invest a lot of effort into creating something that could break stealth. Whether that be stronger more effective radars, low frequency triangulation from multiple systems, or this quantum shit. It’s been 30 years since the nighthawk was revealed, of course they came up with something by now.

You can't transmit information through entanglement, because for a start that would transmit information faster than light. You can only tell if particles are entangled if you have access to both.
Is there any evidence of it being used outside of the lab? How are they not running into problems with decoherence? Entanglement isn't new, but it's far too immature to be of any practical use in radar.
>a change to one entangled photon will IMMEDIATELY affect its twin, regardless of the distance between them
Read that article. Quantum entanglement has been proven to act faster than light in an experiment, and yes they are researching how to use it for communication in space over great distance. Information CAN travel faster than light.
Jaxson Scott
You too smooth brain. Quantum entanglement can transmit information at least 10,000 times faster than light according to an experiment with two photons on opposite ends of the earth.
Jason Richardson

The current version has only 60 miles of range proven, because it is rather small. China won’t say how they solved those issues because they don’t want America to copy them. China is currently working on a larger more advanced version with much more range. America may also have a secret quantum radar at DARPA, but it isn’t as revolutionary because China isn’t as reliant on the crutch of stealth.
Dominic Rivera
>the entanglment meme >again please stop pushing the pop sci myths please.

If China really thought that this was some sort of superweapon that would obsolete stealth overnight, they wouldn't be creating large numbers of stealth aircraft and investing in stealth development programs. It seems that you know nothing about how this quantum radar actually works.

>“A quantum radar, generating a large number of entangled photon pairs and shooting one twin into the air, would be capable of receiving critical information about a target, including its shape, location, speed, temperature and even the chemical composition of its paint, from returning photons.” But user, it clearly says returning photons. If it is a bound pair, it would not return.
Evan Howard
You are aware the concept for this quantum radar originated in Canada, right? So if the west has access to it, and it's such a gamechanger, why is China still developing stealth aircraft? The answer is that the "quantum" radar is a marginal improvement WRT jamming resistance, that's about it.
David Parker
This. Stealth jets are just a stopgap measure for China. They aren’t going hard in for the j-31. j-20 is just for shooting down AWACS and tankers to cripple America if they were to attack in the very near future. They see which way the wind is blowing. Russia also sees, which is why the su-57 sacrifices stealth for better kinematics. In a world of advanced IRST and quantum radar, stealth sacrifices too much for an aircraft for little gain.
>scientific postmodernism Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. If the Chinese military claims they managed to get a working solution that violates causality, the burden to provide exceptional proof of their assumption is on them. We don't have that.

The j-20 is basically a super mig-31 designed for intercepting and shooting down big fat targets from very far away. American f-35 need tankers to reach China since carriers can’t get close. J-20 will destroy the tankers.

China is planning a network of quantum ghost imaging satellites with data link to ground based missile intercept systems. They can see planes and missiles from space, trained to spot fast movement. America also wants similar satellites, but they are behind in the race.

Then why order over 100 super expensive b-21 bombers to enter service by 2025, eventually reaching a number of 200 in total. U.S. only has around 20 b-2 bombers currently, they must really think the b-21 will still be useful decades into the future. As seen in the RAND report, the U.S. military is short sighted with messed up priorities. My scenario stands.
Holy fuck it’s real, they really gonna order 100 of these, some reports saying 145.
>In July 2016, the U.S. Air Force stated they would not release the estimated cost for the B-21 contract with Northrop Grumman. The Air Force argued releasing the cost would reveal too much information about the classified project to potential adversaries. The United States Senate Committee on Armed Services also voted to not publicly release the program's cost, restricting the information to congressional defense committees over the objections of a bipartisan group of legislators led by the committee's chairman, Senator John McCain of Arizona.
Littoral combat ship, f-35, and now this? Americans truly are beyond cucked by the Military Industrial Complex. Won’t even say how much they are spending on this b-21 fleet kek.

1 billion dollar fly away cost, all the money spent on research and development... U.S. only got 20 B-2s after designing them because they were so fucking expensive. U.S. won’t even say how much they are spending on b-21, not even congress knows.
Will 100-200 U.S. B-21 be worth it? Mutts, defend yourselves. It will be obsolete before it is even in active service. Quantum radar will be ready.

B-21 is not the B-2. The entire program is classified in RTD&E just like the F-22 because it is a US only product.

>why order And here's why chinamen et. al. fundamentally misunderstand the situation they're in. They still look at things on a cost-benefit scale within their comparatively small budgets. The US just does shit because they want to and because it works. They don't have to plan for their next rollout to have a 100 year service life. Planning for the future is effective insofar as you are able to predict future trends. So rather than reacting to what those trends may look like, they do what works and set the trends

The thing about fancy tec is you can always revert to the old school tactics flying under the radar sabotage etc.
Daniel Phillips
I get that Chinese just go online and find some fancy sounding words in a science article to feed them to their uneducated population and drive the propaganda machine. Fine.
What I really don't understand is why they would try to feed that same BS to the countries that are actually conducting the research those articles are based upon. Anyone with a basic understanding of current constructions of quantum entanglement knows DEFINITELY that the proposed "quantum radar" CANNOT WORK halfway through hearing the idea. Not to mention the fact that the term "quantum radar" is nonsensical as the proposed device wouldnt be radar in the fucking first place, it outs you as an idiot from the start.
Thus, you're actively making China look bumfuck retarded at an international level. If we were worried before, anyone reading this thread now knows with certainty that China is a 3rd world joke. Is this intentional?
Henry Price
I think they looked at Kim Jong Il inventing the hamburger and thought they could do the same

This. Entangled particles can't send information.
Thomas Garcia
Quantum radar is a pseudonym. Yes it is not literally radar but it can be used like radar to detect and eliminate planes. And why don’t you think a quantum radar can work after all of the experiments and the proven working prototype?
Jonathan Turner
When one particle moves so does the other one. Bam, information. Point out the flaw?
Christopher Russell
If we're using the term that way, yeah, maybe the concept can work someday. However the proposed invention cannot, unless the Chinese have discovered some property that the rest of the world has not.
b) you wrote: >bounces in the exact same manner that's not what happens. for a total spin of 0, for example, you would have completely reverse spin.
Ryder Morris
It's not pretending, it's just not having to take the same future proofing measures other, less well funded militaries do
Juan Miller
Let me quickly elaborate.
Chinktard is saying the Chinese can transmit information FTL using entangled particles. This is what every child who looks up quantum entanglement on the internet immediately thinks. However, this is impossible.
It MAY be possible SOMEDAY to measure correlation in a useful way through the use of entangled particles. However, that is not the proposed invention, and it will not involve FTL communications. The proposed invention based on the concepts stated here ; is fucking retarded. Like, sacrificing children to the Sun God levels of retarded.

Ok I have to admit that I got a chuckle from this but conflicts aren’t always nuclear or else countries wouldn’t invest in conventional forces. Consider the Baltics. If Russia were to invade, would U.S. respond with an overwhelming strategic nuclear first strike? No, and Russia is calling this bluff. Nato would try to fight conventionally first. Let’s say Nato wins the ground war. Russia has to make the decision whether to escalate to nuclear war (they won’t for the Baltics) or cuck. Whereas if Russia secures the Baltics, and smashes initial Nato forces, America has to decide how hard they want to fight and whether they are willing to leave New York incinerated for this. Forcing the other side to escalate first. If China takes Taiwan quickly enough America may just have to cut their losses. RAND scenarios explain this or even Red Storm Rising by Tom Clancy.
Zachary Sanders
> in the name of the white race! FUCK OFF COMMIE CHINKS AND KYS!
Can you explain why it's impossible? As I understand it, it's because when you try and force a quantum particle to behave in a specific manner, its link to the other particle breaks. So while we know that measuring causes a change in quantum state, we can't use these measurements to force these particles to behave in a predictable manner.
You're not retarded, just extremely ignorant. Entangling particles isn't trivial, but it's not that hard. Detecting them is even easier. It's already being used in quantum key distribution, and several other things. It's easily measured in a lab. I know undergrads who've done it.
Jace Fisher
I call bullshit
Lincoln Hall
The greatest sea of information ever surrounds you, and you're unable to drink from it? Tragic.
Dylan Johnson
Alright poindexter, why don't you explain how this implessive radar works despite violating the no-communication theorem, or are the chinks just full of shit like usual?
Jordan Gonzalez
I'm not involved in the radar discussion. But it's easily achieved by (for example) by entangling two particles with a set total spin, and by studying your local particle you can deduce what's up (or down, heh) with the other. That's not what the theorem above is about.
Adrian Torres
I really don't get how you guys can't just look things up.
Completely correct post. Also misleading. These are all examples where you have both entangled particles right in front of you so you can measure correlation. Neither involve instantaneous transmission of info, because both particles must be measured and compared to get any useful info. The proposed invention is still impossible
Lab tests are also an entirely different beast than converting particles into a wave, shooting half into the atmosphere, capturing some that rebound, converting them back from a wave state, then measuring quantum state correlation, all without breaking entanglement but somehow getting enough info to draw a useful conclusion. That's the only viable concept of quantum radar has been envisioned, but it doesn't exist.
China's aircraft carriers have fucking ramps. They can't do this. Sorry.
