Wait, the japanese themselves couldn't be bothered to memorize kanji and sensibly wrote furigana on documents for adults,
Why did they stop doing this?

Good thread, let's keep it going

Thompson Center Hawken 50 cal is my fav. Just cleaned him but don't a pic to post ATM. I need to get some more caps and powder.

Maybe because it's a pretty specific subject?
In the wikipedia articles about furigana, there's a picture shhowing a volta battery, text with furigana. Incidentally, said picture and this musket one is in the same era (1840 for the battery one, 1855 for this one).

Interesting unrelated topic that you've raised thanks!

That looks like a black eye not gonna lie

What about pistols?

>$630 for a working flintlock from 1777
The fuck.

it wasn't from 76

Very nice, antiques or repros? Looking to get a pair of pistols for myself as well.

Not mine alas, in a house museum somewhere in Paris.

big distinction

Don't actually live fire it please, old rusted barrels can explode and really hurt you, and steel quality back then wasn't the same as it is today. Otherwise, great find, hope you enjoy it!

Semi related byt looking to take a long hul trucking job and heard that cap and balls are a great gun for truckers as they fly under the radar of most laws regarding carry of arms in vehicles, is this true?
pic unrelated

many thanks

I really need to shoot mine. Inherited it but have never messed with black powder before. I have some minie balls but they have this nasty look on them. Does lube go bad? I've got no land to shoot on and only have indoor ranges save for the fudd fuck one

1777>br*wn b*ss

Here’s an m1816 .69 cal musket I’ve had for a few years. It was manufactured in 1831 in Middletown Connecticut. It’s a U.S Johnson contracted m1816, which is the rarest of contractors for this model. This particular musket was issued to a US infantry unit during the 2nd Seminole War (more than likely to 10th infantry co E of NJ, according to the serial number and cartouches). The majority of this model was manufactured at Harpers Ferry. I fire this musket all the time, along with my original flintlock fowler, which is from circa 1740. I make my own paper buck n’ ball cartridges for it. The paper cartridges do an amazing job of keeping the fouling down while shooting it and makes for fast loading. Absolutely DEVASTATING those cartridges are to watermelons and pumpkins.

Go figure. My dumbass forgot to attach the goddamn pic.
