Plce webbing works well, mags for main on the left (right handed) pistol magazines on the right . Molle system with mtp pouches. Velcro for speed and ease . Any spare kit for off range shooting like knee pads, entrenching tool and ear defs all in one place with room to spare for whatever else you might want

In my wooded area, I found keeping shit as close to the hips as I can works best.

One of those Croatian split front rigs from the Yugoslav Wars. Used to be about $30 on ebay. I have one; biggest negative about it is how little adjustment there is on the waist strap. You can only take it in so far, and that's still waaaaaaay too loose for my skinny self. Flops around all over the place.

They've got the straps sewmn in between the two layers of the chest rig panels themselves, so you'd have to do some dissecting to get it out and shorten it "properly."

My nigga. I use it erryday with my SBR'd Draco. Add on that a good 25-30l backpack and you're good to go for a while.
Apart from that, I use a SADF M83 rig (a real Nutria one, not a shitty miltec repro) with my Tantal and SLR106 and a rifle Chicom for my SKS.
As much as I like east bloc gear (and that's not being a slavaboo, I was actually born in slavland and speak Russian with my family), this is hot as fuck. Woodland truly is peak burger aesthetics.
Are you talking about the chest rig or the battle harness? The former is only good as a collector item, and as said, a chicom will work the same.
If you're talking about pic related, then it's a great vest, not worth $130, but still a damn solid vest for AR-15 or 5.45/5.56 AK mags.

As someone who owns and uses both, M83 chest rig >>>>> M83 Battle Jacket
The Battle Jacket is a solid piece of kit but the lack of modularity is something you really feel. Most soldiers using them in Afghanistan invariably started modifying them (mostly in the form of cutting off pouches). I also own an SSO smersh and it does everything an SADF battle jacket does but is modular.
The chest rigs are essentially an across-the-board upgrade to a ChiCom rig.
Nothing against the ChiCom mind you. ChiComs are bar-none the best bang-for-buck chest rig you can buy but can we not J U S T A S G O O D this?
IMO SADF M83 gear is SUPER overpriced now though. I picked up my battle jacket for $80 and my chest rig for $40, wouldn't pay current prices for them.

desu if you're trying to run cheap, cruise ebay or /bst/ for SADF rigs (they pop up sometimes) or buy a ChiCom Type81 (4 mag pouches+2 grenade/misc pouches) and mod it (shoulder pads, fastex buckles and triglides are easy, cheap upgrades that make a huge difference).
Outside of that you're pretty much stuck with Condor shit unless you're trying to drop some coin.

Unironically buy Chinese. You can find PLA rigs on aliexpress, they look like pic related, you've got 4 mag pouches that fit AK, AR and battle rifle clipazines, 4 grenade/generic pouches, and it's easy to regulate them to your size.
You can find them in chinese camo patterns or woodland, but there's a huge downside, they can't fit big people (tall, fat, strong, or a combination of the above), they can fit people wearing Large-Regular (or Euro XL) at best.
Or, alternatively, if you live in a temperate-to-cold place (northern USA, Canada, the northeastern half of Europe), you could just buy a Swiss Alpenflage M57 jacket. You've got 5 mag pouches (with dividers! If you remove them, you can fit up to 7 30rd AR or AK-74 mags), dump pouches, grenade pouches, and wear a belt, a yoke and a small backpack on top of that.
Keep in mind that these will be appropriate for guns using standard "assault"/battle rifle mags (AR, AK, battle rifle mags), if you're using shorter (10/20rd AR/AK, M76...) or bigger (RPK, PS90, Vz.58) mags, it won't be appropriate.
If you use a pistol calibre carbine like a 9mm AR, MP5-like or PPS-43, then it can work, count that you can carry 2 "SMG" mags per AK/AR/BR magazine space.

If you're using small mags, you can get yourself a Type 63 "rifle" chicom, they look like pic related and can fit 20rd AR mags or SKS clips. If you're using a Vz.58 then fuck if I know, maybe reload it with clips?
If you're using RPK, PS90 or comparable big ass magazines, fuck if I know. RPK mags can be put in combloc milsurp pouches, same for drums (you can get Soviet RPK longboi mag pouches and Chinese, Soviet and Warsaw Pact drum pouches).
10rd battle rifle magazines (short M14/PTR-91/FAL-like ones, M76, PSL and .308 or 7.62x54r Vepr standard mags) may fit in the rifle chicom, but I'm not sure.
Oh, and I remembered, if you use short AK/AR or standard battle rifle mags, get a milsurp rig like a set of British Pattern 58 webbing, this one will be appropriate for most types of magazines and is a tad heavy but will cover all your needs.
