There was literally a stockpile of 5000 Stg44s and tons of 8mm Kurz in Syria from WWII that somebody found.
They were everywhere in the conflict until the ammo dried up last year and they started using other stuff.

The lesson to learn from that is that every "AR or AK for whennashtf" shitflinging thread is horseshit. All that matters is that you have a rifle and ammo to feed it, because the idea of scavenging ammo and mags off corpses is not a thing outside of video games.

If I remember Correctly Germany gave away a lot of its arms to the middle east and africa after the war.
