Live in an apartment during school, at home during the summer. I also use house/apartment interchangeably, it might as well mean the same thing because I couldn't pay for my apartment with a minimum wage job.

You must achieve financial independence. Full stop. Job one. Absolute top priority.
Find a way to fund your day to day living expenses and your education/career.
Then go do whatever you believe is best.
As a practical matter, I think it's wise to avoid hurting your parents unnecessarily. They don't need to know what you do with your own damn money in your own damn home.

OP, here is a realistic solution:
Do you have a job? Find one. If no, then save up money where you can- you'll probably have to build a firearm from parts, like a Glock, AR, Mossberg 500/590 series or something that you can build from a receiver. If you're under 21, private sales or polymer 80 will be your only solution- or having a ton of money.
I am currently building a G19 for a little brother and a Mossberg 590a1 spring by spring- ask me about it if you want.

I work part time in the school year and then at a gun range (ironic I'm posting this here) over the summers which pays pretty well, but the cost of living in my state is ridiculous. I plan on buying a handgun on armslist/gunbroker via private sale

Join the Air Force, go fuck a bunch of rando sluts around the world doing a dumb job for four years while doing college with federal tuition assistance, get out, either do more college with GI bill or learn a trade or get your pilots license, then do whatever you want to do. You’ll be a few years behind people your age but you’ll have zero debt, and likely a good amount of money (and guns) in your pocket. I’m 25, have a paid off truck and motorcycle, a basement full of guns (almost 30) and I just recently bought a house. I’ve got 12k liquid in the bank and almost 7k in my TSP (military saving plan, like a 401k). I work an easy job and don’t even have a degree. Life is comfy as fuck thanks to the Air Force.

If they're paying for your college right now that means you have low debt. Just take a year off and work a shit job in a medium sized town until your parents stop marking you as a dependent. Then in 2020 sign up for trade school and get a student loan with your current low income and use it to go to school and help pay for rent.

It will literally cost you pennies on the dollar. It'll take you a year or two and you'll be out and making more money than your dad.

If I complete my course at uni I should be set for a pretty high paying job, but I wish I could serve dammit.

In 1999 I moved out of my parents house at age 18 because they wanted me to still have a curfew. They weren't willing to pay for college and I wasn't willing to go there. I always had jobs but I lived in my truck for 2 weeks after moving out until finding my first and only rental. 5 years ago I paid for my current house with cash. No mortgage. I'm self employed and my wife is a stay at home mom.

If you want to be independent, you can do it. But you have to want it.
