But .40 has a reputation for being "snappy", while .45 is "more of a push", no matter what physics says. Probably because .40 is usually in polymer guns, and even when you put .45 in a polymer gun, it usually has a heavier slide and a longer stroke.

But you put them both in a 1911 (same weight slide, same stroke), and most people are surprised at how similar they feel.
