This was the best INTERCEPTOR ever made

Aesthetic, F A S T and had a long career worldwide
Admit it : the F-104 Starfighter was a success
>inb4 dumb seething kraut arguing about them and being still butthurt for using then as a bomber/fighter

Its TWR was kind of shit.

Only Kraut subhumans were dumb enough to crash them though.

I don't think you understand the difference between a fighter and an interceptor.

It was alright. The XF-108 was the real tragedy of the XB-70 program's cancellation.

>Still mad about a bomber that was already obsolete during his time
Oof

>doesn't need a long runway to take off
>thicc boi coming in at a max weight of 46 tonnes
>literally has twice the range of the 104
>doppler-shift, phased-array radar suite
>bypass ducts to keep the engine nice and cool at high speeds
>actually designed to carry ordnance
>doesn't need a shitty rocket engine to make a near-space altitude zoom climb
>made in a country that doesn't classify pilots that only went to 70km as astronauts.

Ok sir gay - sorry I mean Seguei, now take this seringe of Krokodil and go back to your filth

I do. They're all fighters in the game tho. Mitsubishi T-2 is essentially an interceptor too. Just means you don't turn fight.

Wasn't this thing's ejector seat terminally fucked? Couple that with a single engine and I can see why this thing isn't very popular.

Same thing for civilian airplanes : all made of glass cockpit, smokeless and almost noise-free engines, made of composite materials...
Aviation today is a huge faggotry mess

Impressive!

Don't blame the krauts, their air force went from the gulags to the highest performance interceptor of the time practically overnight and their zyklon-addled brains just couldn't keep up.

Nah man, 106 was tops, sorry.

Is the f-104 the most aerodynamic fighter? It holds the low altitude speed record but I have seen others say the f-106 and other tailess deltas have less drag. There's not much info for non US planes when it comes to lift and drag. Newer fighters actually might have regressed, they stopped bothering to area rule them due to powerful engines sending them supersonic with brute force.

Plus the fact that, apart from the F-104, the MiG-29 was the best aircraft the post WW2 Luftwaffe ever had

>stopped bothering to area rule them
That's false, they just figured out smarter ways to adhere to the area rule than "where wing big, make fuselage small - plane go fast". The wasp waist was a short-lived feature that came from adding area rule considerations as an afterthought.

>That's false, they just figured out smarter ways to adhere to the area rule than "where wing big, make fuselage small - plane go fast". The wasp waist was a short-lived feature that came from adding area rule considerations as an afterthought.
How are they doing it now? If you look at a f22 there's substantially more area around the middle of the wing. Any idea which jets had the least drag when going supersonic at low level? Apparently the F-15 has less drag than the F-4 but I have seen F-111 pilots claiming they could outrun F-15s at low level, officially a f-104 holds the sealevel speed record but F-111 pilots sometimes claim they went a little faster. I guess the F-111 acts more like a tailess delta with the wings swept.

meh. anyone know why they never weaponized the sr-71? how hard would it be to have just put a nuke in the bay where all the heavy camera shit was

>best interceptor

if by interception you mean it was intercepting death itself for the pilot then yes

As OP said : you’re still mad Hans?
Don’t blame the airplane, blame your shitty air force

you do know most of the accidents happened in usa right alfonso?

To be fair, the main reason the jet did so poorly for the Germans is because not only were they trying to use an interceptor in a fighter/bomber role, but they also did a lot less actual flying/training compared to the USAF.

For it's time, it was an amazing machine that fulfilled it's very narrow role well. But the airframe is limited simply because of how simple it is. The Italians did a decent job of updating theirs, but the fact still remains that it was only ever designed to travel in a straight line very fast and attack big slow targets.

That looks cool. I love modern reinterpretations of old aircraft and vehicles.

So do I, even if they are really impractical most of the time. Not to shit up the threat too much, but I have a few more.

Yes they mostly are, but I nonetheless love looking at these without regarding the practicality or realism.

A L M O N D S

Nice activated double dubs bro.

Its thrust to weight ratio was fine for a single engined 1960's plane, it was literally made around the engine. Its wing loading was shit, it could not mantain lift in any turn, and it was not meant to house ordinance what so ever. The F-104 was a plane built purely for show and money, Lockheed was dealing in various illegal activities at the time of its production and it was one of the 'fighters' it tried to sell for export knowing full well it was not a fighter at all.

in the 1960's there were many scandals involving US aviation companies making aircraft for the sole purpose of profit abroad, despite their short comings. look it up

>krauts try to use high speed interceptor as a dive attack CAS aircraft
>krauts surprised to see their pilots can't pull out of steep dives while close to the ground
How did they mess up so bad?

...

That's a MiG-31. Those first flew in 1975.

My favorite Interceptor.

Still sad though one of them crashed into the XB-70...

*ejects into the ground at 400mph*

and yet they both crashed two different F-104s

maybe Lockheed really does suck! bigthonk.jpg

Stay mad Seattle fag

You make that yourself?

OP said "best interceptor EVER MADE"

So, Op is wrong, it´s Mig-31BM.

they put 17 yearolds in cockpits and were to greasy to buy them even manuals much less train them

>compressor stall

>Extreme loss rate everywhere but in Spain where it flew very little
>Literally bribed into service in several countries

Germany is just the most well-known case, it was shit

Sexy camo

Which jet aircraft holds the most A to A kills than any other jet ever made?

Plus, a small reminder

Reminder that the turkish win/loss track record in the F-4 was about the same as these 'inferior subhuman' jets you keep talking about.
