My first sketch of the "VZ-58 handguard project by a complete novice with mostly hand tools," I'm obviously not much of a carpenter or schematics drawer. Used a beaver barf handguard as reference for most the measurements, many are just a half millimeter bigger since you can easily file away a little material.
The good thing is that at its widest point it's almost exactly 2 inches, so a 2x2 works perfectly; I'm thinking maple or walnut would be my best bet.
