CS is just as soulless. It shouldn't get points just because it was soulless first.

Huge From Software fan and so far it's my last favorite they've done.

It's almost like the battle is just qte without the big flashing letter. The combat also feels cheap bc since there's no build, they know what tools you have at your disposal and design the bosses to exploit those weaknesses.

I still have fun with it, but it's no Bloodborne.

It is BRUTALLY hard and while I have legitimate complaints about the game, and how it does a piss poor job and teaching you shit, or how terrible the trainer is

I just about passed out from bliss after kicking the ass of a boss that I'd been non stop fighting for five hours. Had multiple similar experiences with other bosses as well

You cannot play it like dark souls, but once you get past your mental barriers, you can start doing no hit runs on bosses

All of those. The mechanics are great, executing bosses is so fun.

Last weekend I found my old PSP while I was doing some tidying up around my basement, I even had a few of the syphon filter games for it. I was surprised at how well done they were; the first game had an M rating, so it actually had blood and you could set guys on fire with the taser. The second one had a T rating, so no blood and the taser only made guys smoke instead of burst into flames, but some of the environmental kills were damned satsifying; after you finish holding a pirate's face against a stovetop, the coms lady says over the radio "Gabe, was that really necessary?". Oddly enough, his screams don't alert either of his buddies in the next room with an open doorway. Unfortunately, it also reminded me of a few shitty facts; that the Syphon Filter series ended with a game on the freaking PSP, and that it ended on a cliffhanger with Gabe, the coms lady, and the black lab guy getting shot by a Chinese agent, and we don't even know if Gabe or the coms lady lived or not (the black lab guy was almost certainly dead). Some bullshit if you ask me; a series as good as Syphon Filter deserves a better ending.

It's the only video game I even play anymore.

You are going to really dislike the game at first, especially if you're a souls fan. Nothing you do will work, you'll die in 2 hits to trash mobs, your dodge won't dodge anything, your sword does no damage, ninja tools don't kill shit, the enemy tracking makes sure you get hit by fucking everything, grabs will vortex you into them, people will shoot you out of the air while grappling, you will die over and over again and you won't really know why or how you could have won in that situation. The game does an absolute shit job of explaining combat to you, the training dummy guy is very meh. You'll find yourself saying "this game is shit" or "there's nothing I could have done there, this game is pointlessly difficult and slow".

Stick with it, spend time with normal enemies near a [spoiler]bonfire[/spoiler] and practice the actual combat. You need to almost forget the dodge button exists. I rebound my block/deflect to B so I could use my muscle memory for dodge timing to my advantage. Learn the timings, learn about the posture bar, learn and abuse the mikiri counter ASAP, and for the love of fuck don't give enemies time to breathe.

Slowly the "rock, paper, scissors" counter combat will make more and more sense, and you'll find yourself carving your way quickly and fluidly through 10+ different styled mobs aggro'd at once without being touched. It's a game where you can see real-time improvement the more you play and the more you understand it. I don't know if I think it's the best game they've made, but it's a million times better than I thought it was in the first couple hours.

good synopsis. getting crushed by a boss and learning to mikiri counter and be aggressive while deflecting to decimate posture is so satisfying. Learning to overcome, or gittin gud, has never been so satisfying

Haven't played a COD in years but BO4 has been very entertaining lately. It gets a lot of hate for the specialists and the $30 sledgehammer, but if you just ignore that shit and run with Flak Jacket, it negates every single specialist ability and explosive damage. Haven't had this much fun playing a twitch shooter since CS 1.6 during college. Just recently started trying Blackout which seems like one of the better BR games. Could never get into Apex or PUBG.

You can at least narrow it down to games that get it semi-right, there's a reason why games like Stalker and Red Orchestra are considered Jow Forums vidya while CoD isn't

Kind of. Preordered Red sabre and bought Siege on release, so its hard to really get excited for anything anymore without substantial gameplay footage. Everything Ive heard about the plot just seems so damn... teenage, for want of a better term. Hopefully they dont try too hard to be adult, to the point it would bring the game down. The reason the weird stuff in SWAT worked is because it was out of nowhere, to plaster that shit in your marketing sort of misses the point.

Not fond of the gun choices, but they've said they were chosen because they looked cool, so I suppose it not an issue and they'll surely have more regular stuff available.

The M14 seems weird for a large city SWAT unit to use, but everything else (M4, FN SCAR, Glock) doesn't seem too far out. Even the MPL sorta fits, since it was used by German and South African cops.
