Well, here in Deutschland we have the choice between the SL8 and the HK243. I personally like the G36 over the AR15, but is it worth a bullshit amount of money more in Clapistan?

My buddy has one, I've shot it for years.
I think they look cool, they are reliable, and they're accurate.

That said, I hate the fact that they don't take standard mags, and I personally don't like the idea of making a "clone".

You can convert them to use double stack mags. New bolt or repair the original and widen the mag well.

Not sure about the US SL8, but H&K in Germany offers a replacement magwell that takes standard AR mags.

Anyone have experience with the Desert Tech MDR? I was looking at battle rifles and ran across it. It looks interesting and the videos about it make it seem pretty great, but I hesitate to trust reviewers that barely put any rounds downrange.

Snag an SL8 and keep it stock!

Buy a Tommybuilt G36 if you want one. It will end up cheaper than sourcing a $2k SL8, buying $2k in parts, and then paying someone to do the conversion.

I have an SL8-1 in the original blue polymer. Debated converting it over the years, but the SL8 is a beautiful abomination in it's own right and will only become more valuable as more and more of them are chopped up.

Went with tailbook pistol version of the same from Tom. He just shipped it on the 2nd of this month (ordered 23 March). Very pumped to receive it.

They suck. The balance is absolute shit due to the bull barrel, and the thing is painful to hold due to the retarded angle of the grip and the thumbhole stock. The single stack mag is the most cucked shit ever at $40+ a pop.
It's only saving grace is looking cool (it's only rare because no one wants it, not at the price it was sold at and with how absolutely neutered it is, yet still not neutered it in a way that was CA legal) and being able to be converted to something else.

It's cheaper and faster to just buy the T36 and build it up from there.
Only reason to get it now is if you just want an SL-8 for some reason, or if you want to do a XM-8 conversion. Honestly, with the T36 out, I wouldn't be surprised if he does a TM8 at some point.
If he does I'd probably regret converting my SL8-6.
