I'd have gone longer, but it's not like you're losing that much for your likely use cases. And you can always switch the upper to 300 if you want.

Nice, OP, looking good. It's crazy how long that free float handguard makes a 10.5" look compared to the oldschool plastic handguard version PSA makes too. Excellent choice for a first gun.

Pretty much anything being sold on the commercial market is fine. They all come with a letter from the ATF just in case. What you can’t do is make your own “brace” and shoulder it.

If I'm looking at a 12.5" build, can I use a regular buffer spring + buffer, or should I get a brace that comes with a spring + buffer?

Get an AK pistol if going for pistol in 7.62x39. Won’t have buffer tube and will have regular AK mags.

Solid choice user, I got the same gun, just a bit of an older config with the SOB brace. So far I'm about 4500 rounds in and 0 malfunctions. Invest in a 22lr conversion kit for maximum enjoyment.

If you want to suppress the gun you should be looking at 300blk instead of x39, it'll be quieter, perform better from a shorter barrel, have less muzzle flash, have a wider range of loadings (both super and sub), and most likely be more reliable. Your other good option for a suppressed setup would be run something like and 11.5" or 12.5" 5.56 upper and run 77gr otm or similar ammo. Either way, short barrel 7.62x39 in an AR isn't really a good choice for a HD gun with the other readily available options you have on the market.

Also it's not my only gun, just my first gun. These days it's more of a range toy.
