Shotgun or rifle for home defense?
Shotgun or rifle for home defense?
Yes.
A rifle with an aluminum receiver is the best choice.
Bump because I want to hear some discussion on this. Personally my only criteria is short enough to use inside and capable of bearing a light. I have an AR right now for mine, but I don't really love the idea of using 5.56/223, I really want something bigger.
KS7, bullpup shotgun.
Rifle if it's 4 in the afternoon and i'm alert and active
Shotgun if it's 3 in the morning and I'm rolling out of bed
Depends what kind of home you're defending, what the situation is, and whether or not you are on a tight budget and need a gun that can do it all (hunting, sport shooting, HD) or you have a collection of guns and can take your pic. Now let's never have this fucking thread again.
>If you're willing to practice a lot
Shotgun
>If you just want to be better off than Jamal breaking into your house with a hi point and don't have time to git gud
Rifle
Shotgun is probably the only thing that will reliably end a fight in a single shot with the proper loads, but there's a lot to fuck up on a pump action.
House on private property, BTW.
Neither.
>Zhukov stock
>Optic requiring neck weld
shiggy diggy
>if it's a long crackhead
Shotgun
>a group of people whether that's jamals or a SWAT team
Rifle
>long
lone
>Using optics with the stock folded instead of going full cheeki breeki
Come'on, guy.
Rifle any day of the week. A real man defends his house with a 98k and a bayonet, and gives his german sidearm chambered in .32 ACP to his wife.
both, I like shotguns
for me, it generally boils down to what 12ga buckshot can do to people and the simplicity of a big bead sight
>criteria is short enough to use inside and capable of bearing a light
I agree
I use a standard 20" 590a1 because my apt allows for it...big, open floor plan w/ only a single corner to move around
the contrast a weapon light creates for a bead is great.. very easy to pick up, very fast
>don't really love the idea of using 5.56/223
done much shotgun shooting? 12ga buck is a blast
Like all gun answers... it depends. Do you live in CA with a 10 round max? Then the benefit to a rifle over or semi-shotty just went down. Is your house small with narrow hallways? Long shotty not going to be great. Are you well trained with one over the other? Do you have neighbors close by? Do you have small kids you may need to hold and shoot with one hand?
It is always operationally dependent.
Small house shot gun, big house rifle.
>If you want to be better than Jamal and don't have time to git gud
eh, I argue that there isn't an excuse to not git gud
..10-15min dry-fire and home maneuvering w/ dummy rounds
10-15min daily*
I like how you think
Rifle, but a shotgun will work fine as well
Best would be a mag fed shotgun that is short OAL. Has anyone put an SBA3 on a VEPR 12?
Dual wield
shotgun you retard, that 5.56x45 will kill your neighbors dog that's 3 blocks away. and run #4 buck through it, dont do slugs or bird fag
Slugs all day
literal no-guns
higher velocity rounds break up and fragment faster

Lights and fences channel bad guys into fierce doggy land.
Cameras capture video for the local Sheriff.
Last time I had to use a gun was to slaughter a farm animal for processing. Does a S&W 642 count, or does your situation warrant a long gun?
handgun
trolling, but since we're on the ammo subject buckshot and 5.56 will both easily fly through two interior walls if studs don't stop them
...55gr .223 loads generally begin to tumble once they've passed through anything substantial, and buckshot over-penetration can be minimized by the use of smaller shot (like the #4 you mentioned)
birdshot can be effective, but personally, I've read too many stories of insufficient or inconsistent penetration to consider it
Either one would be perfectly adequate.
a related topic: backup ammo
does Jow Forums keep extra ammo handy in the event that one's immediate reload(s) are expended?
>pic
a couple hundred rounds I keep under the bed
what, do you expect your house to turn into a round of Killng Floor?
lol, no but it pays to be prepared
def don't want to ever run out of ready-to-load ammo in my own home
What brand velcro cards do you use?
esstac
I'd used another elastic brand in the past that didn't hold shells well
the esstac elastic is relatively wide and there's a kinda tacky strip inside each loop, like faux leather
I use my FAL as my HD. I'll probably switch when I eventually get a M1014 clone.
>fal
groovy
>switch when I get a benelli
also groovy
m3 is my dream gun, the m4 is up there
Smith & Wesson M&P 40 with a flashlight loaded with hollow points sitting on your nightstand, why would you use anything else?
I live in a ban state so its a shotgun for me, but if I could buy an uncucked rifle I would use a 16" AR
Guys, what if we attached a Shockwave underbarrel to an AR pistol with a shoulder brace.
>I want to hear some discussion on this
why, we have this thread all the damned time and it always ends with "pick one that works and get the right ammo." If you have an AR, load up jhp's. One center mass hit at 25 feet is plenty, you don't need a .308 to drop a niglet.
>under the bed
looks like a cot
pfft well, since you asked, it's a big folding frame and an xl twin memory foam mattress
supressed .300 memeout SBR with 60 round drum and IR designator and nv
