I use HornyDaddy Critical Defense. Not gonna shit on anyone else's choice, as long as it's not FMJ or that cringy RIP round.

Comparing a Geco JHP for 16€ per box of 50 and the Federal Golden Saber bonded for 38€ per box of 50, I can assure that Federal has nicer burning flash repellant powders.

Paul Harrel had a video on this. He compared regular Remington hollow points, 115gr, normal pressure to some fancy federal stuff and got similar results with expansion. Only when he used a short ass 2" barrel ruger lcr in 9mm did he see the inconsistent expansion

Most 147 grain loads end up being too heavy for super short barrels. The bullet ends up going too slow for the performance velocity window of the slug. So it fails to expand and ice picks and even over penetrates.

Tests show this again and again. A load that destroys out of a combat sized handgun fail to expand out of a pocket sized gun.

The heavier slug might not expand but it will penetrate more. Some bullets will expand too much too soon with increased velocity and penetrate less.

I remember 147 grain performing extremely well in ShootingTheBull410s videos, he did pretty extensive tests out of the small Sig's and if I remember correctly 147 performed best

I was going to recommend the Federal HST 124 or 147. That shooting the bull video convinced me, as I own a p938. But if there's other studies showing 147 (what I carry, normal pressure) is awful out of a 3 inch barrel, I'd love to see it.

it prevents overpenetration amd increases the chances of hitting something vital. it's not that FMJs have magically become non-lethal, it's that hollow points do what they do but better.

the performance difference between a .45 FMJ and a 9mm HP would be far narrower than a .45 HP and 9mm HP, or a .45 FMJ and 9mm FMJ, but generally speaking the 9mm would still edge it simply by virtue of having higher potential expansion and a higher velocity and not to mention higher capacity.

Do you really think that 0.2 to 3 extra expansion is going to make a difference between life and death? The chances of you barely scraping the heart vs not at all, for instance, are so astronomically low, that you're better off just A: practicing more, and B: Focusing on penetration. Even IF you barely nicked someone's heart, that still isn't going to put him out of comission. The only way people get stopped instantly is through a CNS hit, and that's infinitely much more likely to happen with a FMJ that will go completely through someone and hit the spine.

Hollowpoints do one thing better than FMJ and that's prevent over penetration, if you care about that then so be it. Choose HP's to prevent over penetration. Some of us don't care about that for reasons attributed to where we live or what we do.
