Get in here, cowpokes.
Do you prefer internal or external hammers in your cowboy shotguns?

external
Not a Cowboy gun rlly but best I got. but I prefer external hammer
External for sure
What's a good, reasonably-priced cowboy double-barrel like the OP pic aside from the actual Stoeger in the pic?
I had the external hammers literally break off of my coach gun before I even fired it.
Take off the heat sheild and bayonet and you have yourself a still fast as fuck cowboy shotty
External for extra yeehaw, internal for actual speed. As far as I know this has always been the case.
1897 is a bit late to fit into "cowboy" for most people. I think the old fudds that do CAS only allow it if you single-load it for every shot.
I've seen decent hammer-fired doubles on gunbroker made by either Tula or Ishevsk in the 70s. Run about 300.
>the rifleman
>it's actually a pistol
Seconding this
Check armslist and pawnshops. Most of your internal hammer doubles from N.R. Davis and Crescent and all the other million company names that made me before the 1930’s use the same old design that was around in the 1800’s. Most the time your cowboy action shooters who aren’t using 97’s, 87’s, or Stoegers just have old Stevens 311’s or something similar.

We got her out don't worry user
what is her name
Are you retarded? The Rifleman gun was a full length Winchester 92.
for approved shotguns in CAS the rule is max two shells only regardless of the gun, that way doubles can still be competitive because realistically that’s what 80% of people use anyway
that whole single load thing is a sleight of hand allowing the recoil of the shot to kick back the bolt and eject itself then drop in another round and slamfire it into the target again holding the foreend just firmly enough so that it can still auto eject, it’s faster than breaking barrels, dumping two rounds, loading two and getting back on target
What's the small revolver in the back?
Chuck Connors is the epitome of Chad
Trigger/Bolt spring broke a while back and my replacement parts came in last week so today I swapped out the broken spring as well as replaced a number of the soft Uberti screws with hardened ones. Feels really good to have this thing fully functional again. I noticed that the new trigger/bolt spring seems to be locking the gun up a hair tighter than the old one; I suspect the old one was losing its springiness prior to finally breaking.
>cowboy thread
>internal hammers pre-20th century on anything a frontiersman would carry
OP GTFO
Can't beat levers
The hardened screws definitely don't have quite the level of finish. But that's a small sacrifice to have much better quality parts.
Apparently most of my pictures are of the right side of the gun, so this is one of the better pictures I have that shows the original screws. They had a nice polished surface and good blueing but they also were soft as butter and even screwdrivers specifically made for the screws in this gun would fuck up the screwheads if even just a little too much force was applied.
>saving my shitty OC
And at this point I'm just posting for the sake of posting.
What is that? Sporterized Martini?
Nice pic. I can't ever look at the MOH tho without seeing Baphomet

Looks like a Greener shotgun to me, so basically yeah
On Monday, I'm picking up a Cimarron 1873 Short Rifle in .357 and I can't lie, I'm excited.
Fuck that looks gorgeous
I’m stuck between an 1873 or an 1875
I'm warming up to the CCH but man I still wish Uberti made theirs with blued receivers. And that they drilled and tapped for tang sights from the factory.
Uberti? I love that brass hand guard.
Fuck I’m retarded I meant trigger guard.
Taylor’s & Co. and Cimarron both offer blued receiver models. Even Winchester themselves still offer blued 1873’s and their MSRP is actually less than the retro companies iirc
Winchester 1873 or 1895*
i think it’s an uberti hombre with that cheap ass parkerizing
William P. Uhlinger 1861 pocket revolver
I landed on the 1873 because that's what they had on consignment at my local gun shop, and frankly, I love the look of it.
What's the deal with magnum cartridge lever gats? I know they should be able to fire a shorter case length like a spcl cartridge, but I heard they can have a lot of feeding problems or don't seat right.
Tube feeds can have problems with different length cartridges (they're end-to-end in the tube, so the length matters)
Stacked feeds are generally OK
I tried to feed Hornady 110+p .38 thru my Marlin 1984c, it locked the action up. I had to take it apart to clear it. My .38 snap caps feed fine.
Yeah I'm mostly looking at the Mirokus but parts availability is a concern.
That's definitely an hombre yeah.
It varies from gun to gun. I know the rossi's are usually more sketchy than the higher end repro guns.
Should check the COAL on those 38's. Might need to try different ones.
Yah I've got some 158s I can try, the ones that got stuck they're Hornady with the flex tip and at 110 they might be stubby. I don't gotta feed .38 in it, I can just rock .357 in it
I want an 1897 12ga so bad but can't find a good deal. Is there a good site besides gunbroker?
*rusts*
>what is oil?
I don't know if this will qualify as cowboy but I need some help identifying this Parker Bros 16ga I just picked up at a gun show.
I have a soft spot for old single actions. Here is my Cimarron Model P '7th Cavalry' and Uberti Schofield. The box and manual are originals.
It has this shield on the underside of the stock, kind of looks like the US govt sign. Anyone know what this is from
Its been years since I've seen this deck
Nice shooting irons, bud.
What's with the crimping on those cases they did back then?
That's beautiful.
Those are Benet primed cartridges. The primer cup is internal and held in place by those crimps around the bottom of the case body.
>he doesn’t wax his big iron with Johnson’s floor paste
Git gud pardner
If it’s by the toe, it’s for having your initials engraved. Those little plaques are commonly shaped like a shield, oval, and keystone
It's blank though, guess it's never been engraved
It's been waiting for you all these years.
Im looking at getting a Pedersoli Howdah. Is there any kind of smokeless powder that works in them? And is there anything like paper cartridges to make loading faster and easier?
Don't mess with smokeless powder in muzzleloaders. You can roll your own paper cartridges with BP, it's fairly easy.
Do you have to brush out the bore after every shot or what? And is there not any alternative to bp that makes less of a cloud?
No, you'll probably have to clean every 20 shots or so, give or take, to remove fouling. There are black powder substitutes that are supposed to make less of a mess, like 777.
Any tips on sighting in a Marlin 30-30?
Took it to the range today and couldn't hit shit
The same way you would any other gun?
Start closer than seems retardedly reasonable and work your way back
Kek
It waited 115 years then. Serial number puts it production in 1904
Are there any other good stainless cowboy lard guns that aren’t revolvers?
I like my GP100, but having another revolver that’s a bitch to clean totally keeps me from getting a vaquero
etch a penis
Even though you're fundamentally wrong, you'd also be wrong on the account of anyone who isn't a retard knows that pistol braced AR's aren't really pistols. Luckily law makers and retards at the ATF think so because they're mindless drones. But a shortened rifle is not a pistol no matter if it fits in a law definition. It still doesn't fit in a logical definition.
>revolver
>bitch to clean
I can only see this being true if you take the gun COMPLETELY apart. Something you're supposed to do once every 5 years or so. And most people NEVER do at all. Unless you mean cleaning every cylinder as tedious. I personally prefer that to clean my revolver, all it needs is the cylinders and barrel cleaned. No real need to take it apart.
I’m shooting .38s which are dirty as FUCK and leave a glass hard layer of gunk on the cylinder
Ahh I see. Yeah this a good reason to have a .38 special revolver only. The .357 cylinders always gunk up with .38 special. I'd have the same problem with my .357s since I mostly shoot .38, until I said "screw it" and bought me a .38 special revolver. Model 10. But its not cowboy enough.
>shoots pistol ammo
>classified as a pistol
>no shoulderable stock
>IT'S A RIFEL.!/,@
That’s why I’ve thought of an SP101 or a new colt.
Are there any low power .357 loads that are as easy on the forcing cone as .38?
>it's ammo that was intended to be used in pistol and carbines
>take some of the stock off rifle and leave a little bit
>some retards classify it as a pistol years later
>HURR DURRR THAT'S A PISTOL
How does it feel to have no critical thinking akills, npc, to the point that some old fat fudds at the ATF had to do your thinking for you?
>add stock to pistol
>HURRR DURRR THAT'S A RIFLE!!!
Pathetic. Anyone who can think for themselves and doesn't rely on kike gun makers to define the world for them, can tell what is REALLY a rifle, and what is REALLY a pistol.
Unless I'm mistaken. I don't beliebe the Sp101 comes in .38 special only. If you're talking pocket carry sized guns, I highly suggest the J-frames from Smith. If you want a .38 special thats more shootable than a J'frame I recommend a used Model 10. They can be had for cheap. Or buy a nu-Smith model 10, or model 67.
Ruger does make thus .38 special only revolver, no one has complained about durability problems YET, so it might be good to go but I can't say I am a ran of polymer framed revolvers.

Happy Sunday, bulba & cowboy frens.
Saving up for a new gun, should I go full cowpoke and get me a levergat in .45-70 or realfuckinNATO and get a PTR91?
everybody at the range has a PTR, nobody at the range has an 1886.
Yeehaw-llelujah
I was in your spot once. Went levergat 45-70 for a few reasons. Mostly because it's futureproof and fun.
1) Fun. I'm sure a PTR is great but I already have a boring tackdriver combat rifle and have been using it for ten years innaarmy. The manual of arms and fighting techniques are known and there's no need to replace them. The levergat is slower and more pleasurable to shoot at the range, and more useful for tumbling game.
2) Reloadability. Straight-wall manually ejected brass is going to be a lot easier than necked down stuff that's been launched towards the moon. Yeah PTR has recoil buffers and ways to adjust gas but it's still gonna be a pain. Also: big cowboy lead will be fine going down the deep (Ballard style) groove barrel at 1500fps or whatever. I wouldn't trust bare lead to not foul the barrel in 308. Again, powder coating exists but that's just an extra step / point against.
3) The cartridge was designed for black powder, which can be manufactured pretty easily. It cannot be grabbed. Same as lead.
Marlin 336 gang reporting in
that's a purdy pic!
the bass pro shops logo kinda kills the cool look
I don't mind. It's a Case knife. I picked it up years ago to replace another Trapper that I was sentimentally attached to and thought I had lost. The manufacture quality is exactly the same. And I did get a matte black Rem870 express tactical from that same Bass Pro, it hasn't rusted yet. They can't be all bad.
>Do you prefer internal or external hammers in your cowboy shotguns?
Has to be a hammer gun, otherwise the cockling system will prevent the barrels dropping open under their own weight
How much do you spend on ammo for your lever gun when you don’t reload? I’m planning on investing on a reloading kit but until then Ill have to buy ammo
45-70 is typically between $1 and $2 per round but can definitely go higher. Check sgammo.
Thanks friend! I still have a lot to learn about photography but I do love taking pictures of my guns!
