Consensus: Model 10

Everywhere I go when I look into revolvers, this old work horse somehow still comes up in talks and such. Just find it interesting even after years when we have great semi-autos, 'modern' spingats and such, people still suggest it. What is your take on it?

A completely adequate revolver that was produced in large numbers for a long time

>holds 5 rounds rather than model 10's 6
>worse trigger
>better in every single way

It was the Glock 19/17 of it's time.

>reliable
>mass produced
>shot one of the most common and easy to get calibers of the day
>buttery smooth trigger
>not too big of a revolver
>not too small of a revolver
>law enforcement almost always carried one

The difference between it and the glock though. Is that the older pre-lock/pre-MIM smiths were put together by skilled craftsmen, and one in mint condition is a work of art.

Here's mine I was in the process of taking apart.

Can actually fire 357 and better sights, along with being stainless

Wtf are you talking about.

It's also the Glock 19/17 of the revolver police trade-in market; you can still find them for $300 to $350 shipped for excellent condition examples. I'd pick one up just to have as a range toy and an interesting police surp gun.

It's just a classic design... Think of it as the 1957 Chevrolet of guns.

Pretty good, user. I dislike the unshrouded ejector, and the way it looks without the coke bottle/target grips, but overall it or the Model 15 are probably the best revolvers in the 400-500$ price range.

Why not a model 19?

Not nearly as many made and collector faggots have blown that gun's pricing all out of proportion to it's actual value as a gun because muh aesthetics. Also K frame isn't really designed to handle a lot of 357(that's why the L frame exists) and so you gotta be on point with inspecting a used model 19/66. I don't know if it's possible to wear a model 10 out short of shooting the barrel smooth.

Have one. Love the fuck out of it.
Pros:
It looks how you want it to look. It feels how you want it to feel. The trigger is glorious, smooth as silk with a clean break. It is easy and intuitive to decock. The recoil is mild. It is easy to shoot well, even if you have not practiced with it. You can easily see why police forces loved it. It was quite literally the gun that built the S&W brand into what it is today.

On the other hand...
Cons:
The stock sights are trash for anything other than carrying in a holster. In a gunfight, you’ll have used the 6 rounds before you know it. It is slow to reload, especially compared to a semi with mags. And the .38 Special caliber itself is marginal when it comes to stopping power, especially compared to what is out there over a century after its introduction.
And remember: all of this is coming from someone who loves the gun.

As an introduction to full-sized pistols, it’s great, especially for someone who is new to them or recoil-sensitive. You put it into their hands and they love shooting it instantly. As something to trust your life to in the heat of the moment, you’ll want something else.

>stopping power

lol he doesn't know...

I know it’s a meme and shot placement reigns supreme, but my bigger point still remains: you can do lots better nowadays and if it were me for a self-defense caliber, my first choice would be something else that fires something else. .

I'm gonna help you out just this once you old faggot. We science and shit now and not fuddlore.

youtube.com/watch?v=T6kUvi72s0Y

It was the most produced revolver, and possibly handgun to date.
Inb4 Model 10 autist

WTF are you trying to "prove" to him user? He said there are better rounds he'd personally choose, it's subjective, nothing he said was fuddlore

I'd say most produced of the 20th century for sure but Glock has probably outdone them at this point.

>it's subjective

It's subjective in that any service caliber loaded with modern design bullet tech will work just the same as any other so pick what you shoot well. It's NOT subjective that x caliber is better than y caliber unless you're comparing handguns to rifles and then rifles always win.

god damn boomer faggots and fuddlore will never die no matter how much research confronts them.

>Watches a new YT video
>Starts preaching about fuddlore and arguing, over a non argumentive comment
You legitimately have autism. Seek help

The only argument you can make against a 38 revolver is capacity and that's not even a big deal since most DGUs are resolved with 3 or fewer rounds. That faggot tried to sound smart and outed himself as either an inexperienced noguns faggot or a boomer full of old school gun magazine fuddlore.

The conclusions in that video are nothing new to anyone who has been paying attention for the last decade. It is a concise explanation for retards that still wanna argue shit like "muh 357 snubnose has moar numberz".

He didn't try to "sound smart" he was just explaining why he likes the Model 10. Yah he said stopping powa, but holy shit man, yes everyone knows .357 sucks out of Snubby because lack of powder cook-off, but nobody has even mentioned.357 you're just raging about boomers and fuddlore. Fucking retarded m8. Legitimately starting to wonder what the generational effects are of that stupid boomer meme from last year

This is a solid weapon that will always be there for you. Listen... ignore all the other shit anons are saying in this thread. Everyone should own at least one of these old world smith and wesson revolvers. Why? Here's three good reasons:

1. Unmatched hand fit and finish (especially compared to modern revolvers.
2. Unrivaled quality - feel the action on one and you'll know exactly what I mean.
3. Enormous, versatile aftermarket. (Grips, speed loaders, holsters, sight kits, etc...)

When you find one in good condition for a good price, don't hesitate. Buy it.

Model 13 then if you want .357 Magnum

Why didn't they make more 3" model 10s? It's the best and they are basically unobtaium. Unless you just get lucky and find one randomly in a pawn shop or something it would legit be cheaper to buy a 4" and have it cut and re-sighted.

Attached: 7ePqlI.jpg (3872x2592, 733K)

Why was the stainless version of the Model 10, the 64, not more popular?

The 3" Model 36 is tits too
Agreed. All I look at at gunshows is old SW revolvers

what's the point of a 3 inch

Easier to IWB than 4". More velocity than 2".

Attached: S&W Gunfighter1.jpg (896x672, 136K)

This was my first gun. 10/10 would buy again.

Come on man.

He loves the gun, so he must be an expert.

>marginal stopping power
doesn’t add too much but model 10s are +p rated

makes sense, why were they not more common then? just easier to make 2 inch or less snubs?

Back in the heyday of the revolver not many people CCWd(more homogenous country) and even fewer were min/maxing hard enough for the 3" to be that popular. 4" on duty. 2" off duty. Few wierdos buying 3".

Ruger makes the LCRx in 3" but it's not a sweet pre lock k frame smith(the interchangeable front sight is tits though).

Full length ejector rod for complete cartridge extraction

What are those grip thingies called?

tyler t grip

Thanks, lads
Now to find one in brushed brass...

t-grips.com/

Picked this up a couple days ago for $400 from a pawn shop. Mechanically immaculate, finish in pretty good condition, slight scoring on the top strap. A 19 can handle .357, you just have to accept up front that there were design compromises to keep the form factor of a K frame and you can't use just any super light or shit hot load. A steady diet of .357 at conventional velocities and weights isn't going to hurt anything.

With that in mind, it's kind of like having a model 10 that you can squeeze an extra 400-500 fps out of if you'd like.

God I love a 3” K frame

Literally the best revolver for carry nigga

I still don’t have a model 10, mostly because I want a 2” and those are tough to come by. Here’s my model 15 instead.

I have two Model 10s. Great gun, perfect balance of size and weight for a duty revolver.

Plenty of good .38 loads today that'll work out of 4" barrel, so no need for the extra recoil and noise of .357.
