What’s the deal with shooter lube?

I keep getting ads for this shit. It’s being advertised as “biodegradable” and odorless. Is this just repackaged fireclean canola oil?

Works great on dragon dildos.

this is why you should have paid attention in chem class.

Or it's coconut oil, aka Froglube

>Non-toxic lubes symbol is a skull and crossbones

I just use mobil 1 15w50 synthetic racing oil. highest possible temperature range, thicc enough to stick w/o running, thin enough to get into springs/corners/pins ect. and its only like $13 to the quart.

Jesus fuck, just use breakfree CLP you fucking queers.
It's marketed towards the punisher skull demographic.

Honestly this. I dont know why people dont use motor oil more often

>Is this just repackaged fireclean canola oil?
... or fractionated coconut oil.

Def a scam. Just go to Walmart and buy some fractionated coconut oil for 1/4 of the price.

Because it’s full of carcinogens, not like other oils aren’t but it’s not like there’s any end-user protection when that shit is nebulized and covering your skin and in your lungs.

those reviews on their site are sketchy as fuck.

Why not just use rapeseed oil?

Also to add to the other reply it has no corrosion inhibitors

I actually use non-toxic sewing machine oil, comes in a handy squirt bottle with a long nozzle to get in those hard to reach places.

USED motor oil is full of carcinogens.

You should use Hoppes or Tetra.

Dude. Just get a nickel boron BCG and run your rifles dry.

OP here. I use breakfree and white lithium grease. I’ll be honest I fell into the froglube meme for awhile until I had multiple jams from it turning into tacky concrete.

Always stick to ballistol

I have no doubt it’s great but I can’t stand the smell

you're supposed to oil your guns??????????

>He doesn't love that overpowering black licorice smell

>I have no doubt it’s great
It isn't. It's just mineral oil with lots of additives. And the worst part about it is that Ballistol is not suitable for long-term storage of weapons since it will attack the metal over time.

>it will "attack" the metal

Proof?

It's a cleaner. How do you think metal cleaners work?
ANyway, shoot them an email or give them a call and ask them. They'll tell you straight up that you should not slobber your guns with Ballistol and leave them like that for long periods of time.

>it's a cleaner. How do you think metal cleaners work?
By your logic, you should not leave any gun with CLP on your gun to prevent rust... Are you telling me the same thing is true for Break Free/CLP because that has cleaner in it too you know?

cleaner A =/= cleaner B
why don't you call them and ask? it takes 2 min and they have a 1-800 number. I called them years ago and they told me right away what I wrote above.
I don't use Ballistol so I couldn't care less but if you care about your firearms, beware.

Non-english speaker here. What is rapeseed? Some nigger vegetable?

Brassica napus, they call it canola oil for the optics.

What do you use then?

I use Break-Free Collector to protect. It's like

>just stay away from anything with mineral oil
so basically everything, including breakfree CO

95% of oils use mineral oil as a base.

>breakfree CO
It contains no mineral oil. it's fully synthetic.

That shit looks like a scam.

I was warned against using motor oil because of muh carcinogins too but i dont shoot enough for it to matter, nor do i think most people do.

I got a huge amount of ATF and just havnt ran out yet.

lol

I laughed way too hard at this.

Motor oil really is full of stuff your gun doesn't need though.

Not sure why people keep trying to reinvent the wheel with this. A bottle of gun oil should last literally years. Most people put far, far too much oil on their guns.

Lost

Am I the only one who uses this on guns?

I live in a humid environment and I have a few guns that I might shoot once every couple years. I use this on bluing and other corrosion prone surfaces and it leaves a waxy coat that does a good job of protecting metal. Way better than a typical CLP or gun oil.

BTW CLP is basically just oil and paint thinner.

Pic related or white lithium grease will work quite well.

oil?

>I was warned against using motor oil because of muh carcinogins

unused motor oil is non toxic.

>Motor oil really is full of stuff your gun doesn't need though.
Such as anti wear agents and such?

>licorice
>not smelling like socks
>not smelling like a girls dirty asshole

ballistol does not smell good, and the smell lingers for hours after using the crap
