Aha! I thought I did have one with the cleaning rod without the magazine present. For historical context - Luger magazines were nickel-plated or tin-plated until 1936 so it would be correct to the time period but I understand your point.
They work and they work well but they are examples of very early thinking in semiautomatic pistol design. They are precisely hand-fitted and very picky about magazines and especially magazine springs. By comparison, most 'modern' semiautos have designs which are more tolerant to such variances.
