What do you guys think of Escape from Tarkov? The weapon modding system has always looked interesting to me, I just don't know if it's worth getting into the game at this point.

good gun design ruined by god awful servers, incompetent developers, and poor balance

I enjoy it as a game. The modding is fun when you have some spending cash, so is going in with a makarov or something low-tier and walking out loaded with other peoples' shit once you get gud.

A wipe just happened last week, and they tend to happen every 4-5 months, when that happens, everyone loses everything they earned. As shitty as that may sound, it makes the game a lot more fun when people are just running around with non-Tapco SKSs, shit AKs, mosins, etc. It's still quite early in this wipe, so if you're going to give it a shot, now's a good time.

The game can be very buggy at times and has a rather steep learning curve, but if you like hardcore games that punish you severely for making mistakes or getting greedy, I'd say it's worth at least the $45 base game.

The game is a huge scam, dont buy it, because 99% of those options dont do a thing and if you die you lose all your shit

Slavshit Gear queer combat simulator. It’s fun but the title stands

Retard spewing shit with just a drop of truth.
It's overpriced and the developers are borderline braindead from vodka intoxication, but all attachments have some statistical changes. However, there's a shitty meta that only one attachment out of its category is worth using, often this is heavily biased towards Russian equipment that looks like shit, and the highest capacity magazine you can slap on your gun, further making it look like absolute shit.

It can be fun. Right now it isn't. Check back with the next major update.

Isn't losing your shit when you die the point?

>r steep learning curve, but if you like hardcore games that punish you severely for making mistakes or getting greedy
If you're new to MMO's this is marketing code word for: the game lacks players, the players they do have complain about game balance, and you are playing the game wrong if you're not in an autistic clan/guild of multi-accounters

This 1000%, if you don't have a group that regularly runs just for the sake of building a war chest to pay for gear to still on shitters, you're going to have a terrible time playing tarkov. Between armor mechanics and desync, you have very little hope of actually enjoying your time in tarkov unless you play on servers that are completely dead

found the guy from the last game thread

full auto meta is sad and devs seem to keep adding in more fat mag options which is aids. new mpx mods are fun though.

Great concept.
Shit execution.

This. Fuck the attachment meta, You just have a bunch of shitty looking guns with great stats that would be uncomfortable as fuck in real life. Sight over bore on some of the guns is ridiculous.

You've just described every MMO. They have little specific quirks and meme words for the same activity. Most guilds are populated by multi accounters larping and then jumping onto a different account in a different area. It gives the impression it's more populated than it is. Got to have the server crunch in one area to prove people like it statistically. This sort of thing should be on /v/ instead of Jow Forums no matter how many autistic man children they think over lap in demographic.
You can definitely tell the games player base probably works for the game when they start talking about what they're using to play it with, because nobody that cares about playing a game goes out of their way to get the best hardware, they're just bragging about it being convenient.

It was infinitely superior before the SKS was added

>hey look at my hardware can the average person with a wage afford this stuff? obviously i work for the company. isn't this wonderful? it's so much better than you to a degree you'd have to be retarded to play this game if you didn't work here.
>be mad pleb you're just going to buy another mmo or be a console fag that has to play mmo's lulz
>geeze why won't women date me i can't wait till i can't stop playing this game so i can go post to Jow Forums incels

I don't know what the fuck you just said but I don't think you were wrong

While I agree with the first two, I usually only play solo and have a pretty good time with it. I also don't try sweaties in Factory, I think the game is poorly designed for straight-up PvP as Factory-spammers use it, even if it is fun to watch higher-level streamers/youtubers do just that. But yes, the population drops steeply as the patch continues and there's tons of complaining from most of the community.

An interesting gun system does not a fun game make.

Great concept, Russian execution.

youtube.com/watch?v=jRKz82v5JQY

Its a cool weapon customization system attached to an uninteresting "videogame".

Accurate. The game is unique and has a really cool concept and that's primarily why I enjoy it, but the devs are pants-on-head retarded. The updates they've made to quests this patch are bafflingly stupid.

Good gun porn but a stupid game. Unsatisfying and unfun to play unless you only play tarkov and nothing else.
The core game is super under developed and is being covered by just adding new gear. Community is cancerous as fuck. "ItS A bEtA!"

Early access in general is a poor idea.

cool weapon handling and mod system

but shit game plagued by cheaters and shit netcode/engine that hasnt changed since it came out in dec 2016.
People that love and shill this game have only been playing a few months.
Once you get sick of it and notice the shit performance issues and widespread cheating issue that the devs conceal very well you cant go back.

Oh and your progress is wiped and you have to do the same shit over each wipe(every month or two)

pic related

Attached: fuck_this_game.png (571x248, 63K)

I agree. So many games just cease development after they get bored and already got all their money.

Yup
In my eyes, if you're a dev who's taking money to let people play your game, you've released a product. "Early access" is just codeword for "we've released a game before its ready and we don't want any criticism for it". The sad part is people will defend this shitty practice to the death.

>because 99% of those options dont do a thing
bullshit
>and if you die you lose all your shit
literally the point of the game. you take out with you what your loot. it's a risk/reward game and if you ever lose everything you can play as a scav to get it back.
I hate games where there is no fear of death, this makes it more realistic and thrilling.

>but shit game plagued by cheaters and shit netcode/engine that hasnt changed since it came out in dec 2016
a lot less hackers now and with every wipe it kicks them off for awhile. last wipe I ran into possibly one.
>h and your progress is wiped and you have to do the same shit over each wipe
more fun desu, everyone has to fight each other with base gear to get it back. A lot more fights with veprs, default AKs, only slightly modified nicer guns, handguns, and shotguns, very little armor but having it makes you a champ. Late game when high levels can buy anything they want are nearly impossible to take out as a new player.

>uninteresting "videogame"
the fear of death makes for a much more interesting game to me. The damage model can be improved but it's more closely tied to realism than a lot of games.

>a lot less hackers now and with every wipe it kicks them off for awhile. last wipe I ran into possibly one.
pic related, also many sites are selling rubles now kek

id like to see your opinion on that after like 8 wipes, which some of us have been through

Attached: cheaters.png (878x821, 119K)

i don't disagree that perma death can be a good gameplay mechanic, but there's fuck all to do other than do fetch quests and gank people.
i find it boring, and the lore doesn't really grab me.
i know they're still updating the game, so maybe it'll be decent in like 5 years, but its definitely not worth it now.

>pic related, also many sites are selling rubles now kek
ouch they need to get the bots on the market that instant buy at __ price. should be easy to detect.
>id like to see your opinion on that after like 8 wipes, which some of us have been through
only 3 here, I'm enjoying it so far, maybe that will go away though. If the tankyness of heavily geared higher level players is better addressed with realism I wouldn't mind not having any wipes. I dont think the final product will have wipes and I'm not the type to grind to level 30 by the first week. Id rather take my time and play an extra scav match to buy off the player market if need be

It's okay, I'm just tired of battle royal shit myself. Also tired of staring at loading screens endlessly. I played a bit with my buddy, the servers are shit. Also you wait ten minutes to get in, walk for three minutes and get killed, and then wait half an hour for your buddy to get killed or escape. Rinse and repeat. I suck at it, so I'm usually the one who dies first.

>i find it boring, and the lore doesn't really grab me.
ah, you're one of the guys who has to have a story line. I build my own in my head as I play, and get thrills off popping players and the gameplay mechanics. missions/storylines in games are only to progress and are a chore.
I've played runescape somewhat off and on since 2006 for example and dont know the storyline to a single quest for example. I built pures and killed people. I played off and on in relation to what time periods had the most ruined pvp.

gun customization is great but the gunplay is garbage

none of the guns feel powerful and most have 0 visual recoil, they feel like laser guns.

well that was poorly written, I blame phoneposting, I'm sure you get the idea though.

>none of the guns feel powerful and most have 0 visual recoil, they feel like laser guns
are we talking about the same game?

so you're autistic

brain is wired to compete/kill/grief but probably.

I played this game for months around 8-9 months ago. It has a steep learning curve, but finding cool gear and killing other players with it is super fun. The reason I dropped it was that I could not survive against anyone. I would occasionally get lucky and kill someone, but even in full kit it seemed like I would die in a few shots (or be severely incapacitated), while the enemy player could absorb bullets like a sponge. I would be in full kit, turn a corner into a player with only a makarov, and as I unload point blank into him with a full-auto Ak with a 40rd mag, he would always kill me after a few shots. And don't tell me "learn to aim" because I practiced against svacs plenty. My shots always connected where I was aiming and I had no issues. I really want to enjoy this game, but there is just so much unbalanced shit in it. Why are ak's pea shooters against fort armor? Why are teams of 3 kitted m4 players allowed to play against solos? Why can one cunt with a pistol kneecap and kill me despite being at every disadvantage?

I hate to be "that guy" but what ammunition and armor were you using? It's really not balanced great right still.
There are sweaty players who are ridiculously good, more of them that are faster and better shots than people I see in any other game, and I am not one of them.

Its been too long to remember exactly, but I mainly ran HP, PS, or US. And for fully kitted runs I would be in fully repaired fort armor, and for half-kit runs it would be those white/blue bullet-proof vests (cant remember exact name). I've heard people say "oh your ammo wasnt the best" or "you only hit his limbs" etc. But if you want a realistic game where all handguns 1 shot heads and where helmets only protect your face, and armor doesnt protect your legs, it doesnt make any sense that there is ANY ak ammo the would kill some unarmored chuckle-fuck in 2-3 chest-shots max,

wouldn't kill*
fuck

You're right to complain. They need to fix their AP and damage tables to be more realistic and their helmets are too extreme. If you feel like trying again anyways though, you shouldnt even bother with armor below level 4 russian (game has rating system in russian not western so their level 6 is our level 4)
escapefromtarkov.gamepedia.com/Ammunition
click on the bullets to see the damage and penetration values. penetration works as though an armor could block their rating*10 in short. So level 3 needs 30AP to reliably pass through it but lesser bullets still have a smaller chance of going through anyways. Armor damage and fragmentation is of insignificance at least right now.

I wont be giving it a try again until they either fix the issues I have with it (which they wont), or they add a low-risk mode where you dont lose everything to bullshit mechanics/netcode/hackers. Call me a casual, but the rage I experience losing all my gear to some broken bullshit is going to make me kill someone one day.

They have an offline mode where you dont lose your shit. You could just do scav runs for no risk and go offline and use the gear. I dont think you even waste ammo offline?

Oops, I should've mentioned playing against actual players in a low-risk mode. Offline raids are too predictable. Scavs are always running the same easy-to-remember loops and there is nothing to gain after learning their paths.

>US
you fool
those are subsonic rounds

Like I said, I used multiple ammo type, US being only used occasionally. Even still
>walking off 3-4 subsonic 7.62x39 rounds to the chest when a makarov 1 shots you in the head

there were talks of adding a CNS hit box. You shouldnt expect to have to double tap a chest to kill. Also chest should be like a double bleed out rate or something to simulate the more vital things there

The way they currently implement this is that when your stomach is shot out, you constantly lose hydration where you'll be completely dehydrated within about 5 minutes. Once you're fully dehydrated, you start to take massive amounts of damage and automatically die after 3 minutes. So in a way, it's implemented, just not directly. I agree there needs to be a better way to do that.

Your ammo choice was your issue. All 3 of those rounds do nothing against armor, and HP is in fact bugged right now. It's got very low penetration, but there is a "global" penetration and HP's penetration rate is so low that it sometimes doesn't penetrate players' skin. It's also supposed to "fragment" (the mechanic that mimics IRL HP expansion) but that's bugged, too. Best ammo for 5.45/7.62x39 is anything that starts with B. It will chew through pretty much any armor. The only spot helmets don't protect is your face, which is why you're getting oneshot by handguns. I agree it's dumb as fuck that this is even an issue in the first place, just letting you know why it was happening to you.

Cool game but i dont want to git gud to learn. Also the fact im solo makes fighting the roaming armored gank squads worse.

Why dont they just add a small little compass ui or just make reading/using the maps a bit more noob&beginner friendly? The fact that maps are an actual inventory item, give very little information and no compass to show bearing makes learning the maps too much effort for me. Imo the way it currently is doesnt bring anything of value to the game. Vets dont need to look at the maps anyway as they already understand the ins and outs of each level. Its just a system that kicks new players in the face and makes it much harder for them to get into the game for no particular reason.

I agree with you to an extent. I think you should be able to take a knee and pull out a map (no compass or marker). This way you can sort of figure out about where you're at and where an exit is, but it isn't hand holding. It took me ages to figure out the layout of Factory because I got turned around at every corner and I swear to god the rooms moved around despite the map being by far the smallest. Forest, on the other hand, was much easier to navigate because you always had the wall or lake to reference position-wise.

What should I be using early game

>star Citizen
Kek

I disagree about Russian stuff being better. 5.56 in that game is amazing where I find 5.45 to be rather weak.
I love the game just wish the servers were less laggy and that armor wasn’t so OP. You hit a guy 20 times in the chest with and he shrugs it off like it’s nothing. Had a raid last night on Interchange where I hit a guy 6 times in the head with an SKS and it didn’t kill him.

SKS, Veprs, pistols, scav runs.

Armored gank squads are easily avoidable. The game is not that brutal to new players. Its overwhelming at first but once you lose your gear fear, the game changes dramatically. And the market making good gear accessible to everyone is phenomenal.

5.45 is shit up until BT, BS and BP rounds. PP isn't bad, the thing to look out for is for some reason all AKS-74Us spawn with BP ammo, so you can pretty easily farm the 2nd best 5.45 ammo.

Okay should I wear armor?

Can you afford to replace your armor? Do you have a stock pile of armor to use?

If you answered yes to either, than yes. If no, then no. Armor definitely increases survivability, but if you cant afford to replace it then rock no armor and pick your fights.

I've got a few that I could use or sell but no I couldn't replace them. I guess I should sell them

What kind of armor is it? I would use it if you have them.

Stuff from scav runs so some kevlar vests it looks like and some Soviet steel helmets

Use it, it cost you nothing to acquire it.

I never had gear fear, i just think maps are stupid right now for no reason other than "muh 2 hardcore 4 u noob"
