Actually, Irish UN peacekeepers did okay in Syria when they had to evacuate a bunch of Filipinos who were surrounded by Al-Nusra militants. They came under fire from heavy machine guns, I don't think they shot back though.
Another base being staffed by Filipinos was totally surrounded, but the tough bastards refused orders to surrender their weapons. They held out for three days, then when they ran out of ammo they snuck out of the base at night and booked it to Israel.

There was a clash between the IDF and UN Peacekeepers in Lebanon in the 1980s that my daddy was part of. Occured after UNIFIL forces were used as a shield by retreating Hezbollah fighters after a roadside attack.
2 Bangladeshi and 1 Irish peacekeepers were killed IIRC. My Dad's Israeli coworker had a UN flag captured from one of their vehicles

Filipinos did all right. Their Indian commander, who ordered them to surrender while himself sitting in the comfort of the home base, mysteriously retired from UN service half a year later. Much blame in India was put on the Filipinos for not being surrender monkeys.

They also don't seize guns, since it would be basically impossible. The rest of the deployments, (outside of south Lebanon) are functionally observer missions that do fuckall.
