Mostly depends on where you live.

When I lived in Salt Lake, I could watch the local classifieds site (Utah Gun Exchange), checking the first page of search results several times a day for no more than a couple weeks, and I could find a huge variety of handguns and rifles at a good price -- pretty much anything I'd ever want to buy.

Selling was almost never tedious. If I posted an ad with a fair price, I'd have two or three serious buyers texting me by the end of the day, very often within a couple hours. I had to be careful that I posted it on a Thursday night or Friday morning because activity was highest on Friday afternoon. The local pawn shops had a ton of guns, but I always wondered why anyone would ever sell to a pawn shop when UGE was just so quick. I never really had to filter people. With Hispanics, if they didn't follow through immediately, they would almost never followed through later. I got talked into holding a couple guns "just until this Friday when I get paid" for Hispanic guys and they never ever followed through. OTOH, I had plenty of positive interactions with Hispanics. Of all the hundred or so interactions I had living out there, I only sold a handgun to a black guy once (USP40) and a rifle (mosin) to a white redneck female once. Not that I screened blacks or women. It was just that uncommon.

I'm in St. Louis now. Suffice it to say that I'm much more careful in my firearm purchases these days because selling a gun on Armslist has become kind of terrifying. I don't even mess with buying guns from people I don't know anymore, and I filter 90% of replies before selling to someone I don't know. I've begun to just keep a list of contacts who are likely to buy or sell guns, and I give my name and number out to trustworthy people who might occasionally buy or sell guns.

I've seen so many $700 stippled Glocks at this point in my life, that I've come to accept that there really are people out there who think this is a good price for one of them. Perhaps there are enough of these crazy people to create their own market.
