What went wrong?

Was it too ambitious?

Too cold looking
No aesthetics

It's main mission of shore bombardment via cannon was antiquated and moronic.

McCann, nonsensical mission (muh iowa NGFS), mission creep, technology creep, a class number cut.

More or less it.

No mast to wave Navy flag
No gallow-like structure to hang mutineers from.

If you can't hang ensigns, what else she is worth for??? Send her to Coasties.

Slash and whine.

Is the the F-35 of navy ships?

The old "fucked around in AutoCAD for 30 minutes" school of aesthetic design, I see.

>What went wrong
General retardation and the typical tendency to put 15 gallons of shit in a 10 gallon bucket.
Once the Navy realized the vertical gun system was a meme, they should've just navalized an existing L52 SPG turret. Instead, they decided to continue the special snowflake bullshit and ended up with a gun that can't use any ammo currently in service. At least its VLS cells are larger than the ones used in Burkes and Ticos, so it can use the new generation of big-dick missiles without refit.
Frankly, for all the money spent into creating a glorified arsenal ship, the Navy could've copied the general plan of the Kirov-class battlecruiser and adapted it to suit USN tastes. Could have probably gotten more than three ships out of it, too.
Though at least the three existing ships can be easily converted to railguns due to the considerable spare electrical generation capacity.

What if they mounted like 30 CIWS’s to it and reclassify it as Hedgehog class?
