in the recent iniohos exercise we actually learned quite a lot about it
first and foremost the italians brought 7 of them purely for pr reasons
they were very secretive about everything regarding the airplane
they did not participate on any BFM
we couldnt asses their profile on horizontal and verical vfm
we wanted to do some bvr without the lenses
they were also negative about it saying that the radars wouldnt have picked them up(whatever)
we asked if they would agree on bvr on a closed NOTAM airspace
they said no
finally they agreed on bvr with lenses on but they got deemed Unassessed because you could pick up the fucking moon with the rcs the lenses were producing
they used the f35 too for bvr with some hits on the mirage 2000 but they didnt even bothered to tell us if it was purely from the radar or the DAS
some pilots reported that they could lock on the f35 with the iris-t from 20 to 30 miles only on really cold nights for some reason the thermal signature is huge
for some reason they were allowed to do anything beyong 3.5g
they practicly elliminated the f35 on a typical COMAO situation they simply couldnt carry any sort of mission without an escort
there are many more interesting findings that will be published in the next week on the official debriefing book
