Anything between 8" and 10" is good, you get pretty much everything 300blk has to offer out of a 10" barrel.

I personally like 10.5", but the round is designed to get complete burn out of 8" barrels.

Pistol gas is the way to go on 300. It's a lower pressure round, especially when subsonic, so pistol is the most reliable.

Definitely carbine length for something in the 8-10" range. I'd also suggest running an adjustable gas block if you plan on suppressing or running subs down the road (superlative blocks are GOAT). Also, if you're planning to run both supers and subs stick with a 9-10" barrel, the longer dwell time helps with cycling.

Short 300 blackout barrels(under 16") with carbine gas can work. You'll be limited to supers without a can, and with subs you're relying on the backpressure of the can, but it's doable. But, I don't think I know of any 10.5" Carbine gas 300 barrel on the market that isn't HBAR profile.

It's the dimensions that matter, not whether it's forged or not. If it's forged but still not mil spec dimensions, it still may not work.
