Not with most factory loads. There's a bunch of stuff you can find about people handloading to get the most out of 9mm in rifle barrels. From what I've heard people have the most luck with 124gr or less, 147gr doesn't leave a lot of room left for powder. Also, hollowpoints tend to overexpand and break apart when they're pushed beyond the velocities they're designed for.

If it wasnt for the law I am confident many, maybe most, popular guns here would be easily suppressor capable or have silencing methods out of the box. Guns are just too loud to be practical without protection and in a self defense scenario why guarantee harming your hearing for no reason?
