Because it seems like there isn't an actual answer. CHF seems to be a great option for turning out high quality barrels consistently where economy of scale matters. But for civ shooters I can't find any evidence of benefit for CHF over button rifling.

Can I get some recommendations for a 1-4 variable scope? NF and scmidt and bender both have one in the 1100 range that's attractive. Though trijicon has a lighter one at 700 or so.
Also in general are the ATACR scopes worth a damn over the older models? They command at least another grand.

If it's a go to war rifle, CHF/CL tends to do better with long term stress and corrosion as well as sustained full auto fire. That being said, the difference isn't usually readily apparent unless you're getting into machine gun territory. For the average civilian, nitride/button is fine for semi auto. The extra money would probably be better spent on a spare barrel if you're really worried about availability/longevity, or more ammo/mags.

$80 can be a lot to some people, but the point I'm making is for most people it's not necessary and the money may be better spent elsewhere on the rifle first. Nitride isn't shit tier compared to CL like it used to be, it's just objectively not as good, maybe 90% as good from what I can see. InRangeTV had a guy from Faxon explain the difference pretty well from a metallurgical standpoint.
