The rear trunnion is different, and expensive as fuck. So that's the difference/why they cost more. To do it after the fact is a huge headache, and the trunnion itself is like 300 bucks.

from what I can tell, Mexico tends to get most of its guns from either international arm traders or American gun runners.

in the case of the former, basically any AK will be fine, as long as you can see on the trunnion (pic related) that it has some kind of maker's mark and serial number. big thing is to look at the markings. if it has serial numbers, military proof markings, factory code symbols, etc. then it's a legit AK. I think in this category Chinese guns will be the most common, you can obviously tell they're chinese because they'll be marked "Norinco", "Polytech", "Made in China", or will have chinese characters.

in the case of a gun smuggled from America, make sure that the manufacturer's markings aren't from I.O. inc. or Riley Defense. also make sure that it isn't a Century Arms RAS 47, VSKA, or C39 of any kind. decent guns would include WASR 10's (easy to tell because they have no dimples above the mag well), Zastava AK's (made in Serbia and imported by Century Arms, they have 3 holes in the front hand guard), Arsenal AK's (made in bulgaria, usually have polymer stocks), Vepr's (bulged receiver and heavy barrel made in Russia), and kit builds (they'll look similar to the original Eastern European AK's except with some American markings on the receiver).

general things to look out for though is having good rifling in the barrel, and also not having any rust or loose rivets.

Just got mine less than a week ago, the trunnion and rails are g2g but the engraving on the side looks like shit and the mag dimples are kind of half assed. Still my favorite rifle definitely gonna sbr the bitch.

In the description it says it has the same angle as a 4.5mm, but uses a 5.5mm pin and front latch. Should I order a 4.5mm or 5.5mm type receiver to go with this?

I asked the guy at recreatorblanks the same thing and he said probably 5.5mm is still what I want and to just send it back if it doesn't fit. I haven't gotten it yet to try out though.

If the assembly looks okay it's probably fine. The issues seem to be workmanship during assembly not the parts themselves. They either contracted out the assembly using overrun parts or opened up a backshop and have a bunch of new hires building them. Date code AD and earlier are sweet rifles

Literally non existent with the wire folder. Even a neck weld doesn't exist.
Obzor is cool as fuck though and running it against my AR, its really not that much slower. Its deff just not as intuitive. If I owned my AK for only practical purposes I would ditch the Obzor.

Depends on what your stock is. Traditional stocks you get a chin weld which is different the western style optics but fine just the same.
If you have a wire folder like me, you literally have no contact with the stock.

Keep in mind that mags will be expensive, but that's becoming true for a lot of AK mags these days. I have a Saiga 223 I intend to send to Definitive Arms for their conversion for this reason.
