Who was in the wrong here? On my Concealed handgun license it fucking says "Ohio licence." It takes a hell of a lot more to get that than a driver's license. I've used my CCP to rent a vehicle before here so this struck me as really fucking odd. I can't find any laws for Ohio saying anything about a CCP being or not being a state ID

It doesn't really matter how hard it is to get a card. That card isn't really meant to be identification, it's more meant to be a permit. Same thing with a driver's license but it also is meant to be used as identification and has additional security measures to support that.

I worked in a gas station for three years, any gov't issued document, expired or not, was good enough for me because, duhhh, you have to get it from the government. I had co-workers that wouldn't accept expired licenses because "DURRRR NOT VALID ID" despite still being a government document that says they're old enough to buy whatever. But most of the laws say you can only sell booze to someone that's 21 AND has valid ID. If an ID is expired it is, by definition, not valid. It could be a 70 year old man but if he doesn't have valid ID you're not supposed to sell to him. It's not just about age.
