It's a weird disconnect and harder to rationalize for people. For a grunt in a combat zone, you're in "kill mode" and if for no other reason, you're shooting someone so they don't shoot you and your buddies. Getting a shot at 800 yards is very difficult even with top-tier equipment and requires considerable amounts of skill and training, you can train a child to push a button.

To me, I mean, the idea of hunting is to feed yourself. You're not entering an arena to have a 1v1 and give it a fair fight. If you were, you wouldn't be using a gun anyway. when i was in the military i worked in "restricted areas" daily. you know what happens if you get caught? say you got lost. doesn't matter how fuck stupid that is, the guy who caught you will almost always take the path of least resistance and just escort you out.
one time i even did it myself and just went walking around in spaces i wasn't allowed to be in. people looked at me because my uniform was wrong and they'd never seen me, but no one stopped me. it literally became a game and i can count the times i was challenged on one hand. my response was always "im looking for..." and they'd say they didn't know and sometimes try to help before I said it was ok and i'd just walk out.

obviously different places are different but you can get surprisingly far unchallenged as long as you pretend you belong.
