Springfield's claim was that they could produce the M14 faster and cheaper than the G3 or FAL could be. Ordinance also wouldn't allow the actual price to be shared with the M14's competitors. During trials the FAL was the best weapon with the G3 coming in a decent second and the M14 in a not even close third. With NATO also wanting to standardize a cartridge the .280 Brit was the clear front runner. However the U.S. and Ordnance were basically in a "stoppin powa" debate and delaying the inevitable. After multiple failures of the M14 Ordnance went to NATO with the compromise that if NATO adopted the 7.62x51 cartridge then the U.S. would adopt the FAL. NATO adopted the cartridge and then Ordnance pulled a Germany and said "Suckers, we only use home grown guns." Then with delays in production much higher price than was initially thought American service members went to Korea with M1s and 1903s, with very few M14s. The problem persisted into the Vietnam war when the M14 was officially replaced with the M16. The debacle that was the M14 secured its place as the shortest serving standard issue rifle in the history of the U.S.
Good thread op. M14 babbies don't want to hear it but it's true.

.280 brit was a shit round Intermediate ballistics with full power size.
Zachary James
it's almost like a design from the mid thirties is starting to get tired.

i'll let you pace off 600 yards and you get the first 3 shots at me, then i'll take a single shot
Gavin Rodriguez
i'll do it under one condition: you're doing the walking. And you got to carry that stupid heavy rifle you're shilling for. your assorted medical problems will probably do the work for me anyway, you stupid boomer.
You could be fit right now, but you just wanna buy answers and take pills.
Mason Powell
I like the M1A and I shall post pictures of it in your thread.
Whats with the wooden dildo attachment? I feel bad that special forces are forced to use subpar outdated weapons, when there were better options around.
Christian Kelly
I don't know man 1991 was a strange time.
Michael Howard
FAL is heavier than M14 dumbass
Austin Wright
What stock is that?
Samuel Ward
at least it functions.
Carter Price
stop. dont even discuss it. it's been covered multiple times. the g3 and fal are glorious the m14 is trash. the m14 can't feed reliably, is heavy, inaccurate, has shit ergonomics, and is based on a colonial musket design.
it's not worth it to actually discus this shit in the 100th thread made in the past week on this. this entire thread is bait.
You leave that fun switch hole agape? Does this guy have a faux switch?
I'm thinking of getting a wood surplus gi stock to replace this plastic junk.
Evan Sanchez
These are fine rifles......not sure what you are on about kid.
Carter Anderson
>complains about the M14's weight >gets buttmad when it's pointed out the FAL and G3 are heavier than an M14 Go on, keep spouting about muh ergonomics and "i-it's more modern because it has a pistol grip!" How about just confess that you can't afford the lighter and more accurate battle rifle (that isn't an AR10).
