CCW Pistols

My state just passed a bill allowing permitless conceal carry in city limits for 18+ effective in July. As far as pistols go I've only got a Taurus G2 PT111, and while its decent it jams enough I dont think its reliable enough for that purpose. What's/k/'s recommendation for a CCW under $600?
Pic related it's my pistol.

S&W Shield/M&P, Glock 19/26/20/40, FNS-9c, S&W 3rd gen Autos, Ruger Americans, Beretta M92C, pretty much anything that fits your hand and meets your frame.

What caliber are you looking for? Does this budget include accessories and ammo (people often forget this)? How often do you plan on practicing? What type of body do you have (slim, heafty, athletic, walking whale)? How often do you forget your keys/how much stuff do you normally carry around?

what state is that?

Ideally 9mm or .40 s&w as I'm familiar with them but I'm open to any caliber really. $600 just for the pistol I can do accessories if needed and have the stuff for reloading a few thousand each of my preferred rounds. I already go to the desert to practice about once every week or two. I'm fairly heavily built I'm about 310 and 5'10". I rarely forget my keys and usually have them, a phone, a few markers, and my wallet.

Glock, HK, CZ, FN, S&W and Walther. Find one you like and there will inevitably be a kydex bender to make a holster for it. Keep mag prices in mind too, I love my P-07 but $32 mags makes me cry as I slowly build up a stockpile.

Something 9mm with a 3.5 - 4" barrel should suit your fancy quite well. The Glock 19 is the ubiquitous choice with a massive aftermarket, reliability, and cheap magazines to boot and a plethora of affordable holsters. The weight of the polymer frame does allow it to be carried a lot easier but the Block© 's form does make it a bit difficult to not print without some cover over it (windbreaker, hoodie, over-shirt, ect.) If striker fires aren't your fancy, CZ and older Smith and Wesson DA/SAs are a solid choice. While the aftermarket isn't really there for the 2nd and 3rd Gen Auto compacts (X69 and X39 series), they are quality shooters. The CZ75C is a nice inbetween and has ergos that allow it to draw and shoot well. Weight is a factor though, and if you're on the move often, full metal guns like most DA/SAs would often break that line. My suggestion about determining carrying extra weight would be to find some diving weights or a formed material that weights similar to the weapon you're looking for loaded and carrying that around for a week to see if it's a deal breaker in your day to day.

As for recommendations, I'd say a Glock 19 or a M&P Compact should easily fit the bill and allow you to also get a holster and a couple spare mags easily. They're lighter weight than older DA/SAs and you already have experience owning and firing a striker it seems. They got a really good after market and they work reliably enough to fit the bill. If you want a hammered DA/SA, I'd recommend a CZ75C or one of the EAA Witness Compacts. They're very robust and reliable, albeit heavier compared to the striker counterparts, and have the advantage of second striking (I forgot if they fixed that with the M&P 2.0). Go to the local range and finger bang some before you make a decision. Hope this helps OP.

Why would you buy a Taurus? Are you poor or stupid or both?

If you don't want to take a risk and want shit that just works, Smith & Wesson Shield (mine's the ported version, quite nice but make sure to use the ammo with that low flash stuff, gopnik ammo very flashy) or Glock 43/48. The 48 is probably easier to rack, recoil spring probably isn't as stiff.

This.

H&K P30sk, P2000sk, Vp9sk, Glock 19, CZ P-01

It was an 18th birthday present from my old man.

Thanks for the detailed response user. I only have experience with strikers, so for now I'll check out the two recommendations you made. I like the m&p compact but if they didnt fix the second strike then I'll likely go for the 19.

I'll give those pistols a go over. Thanks user

If I could afford a p38 I'd absolutely get one desu

No worries my dude. Also, I'd def say be sure to drop mag and clear. Like a majority of NDs happen when people are clearing and cleaning striker pistols (usually because pulling the trigger and dropping the take down is required). I'm sure you're responsible and don't need to be told how to do the basics, but this is something that a ton of people often forget when servicing their carry pieces. Also quickly googling, the Glock 19 and M&P don't have second strike, but you can rack the slide 1/4th of the way to reset the striker or just full rack to load a new round.

A safety reminder is always welcome, thanks. And with no second strike I'll add taking the CZ75 C into consideration, but likely I'll swing for the S&W it seems so far.

Second strike is a dated concept and a little overrated. Sure, maybe the round somehow needs a second primer hit to go off, but a better way to guarantee your next trigger pull will work is to just rack the slide and put a fresh one in the chamber. Which you can do with any firearm. Notice how on modern fighting rifles "second strike" capability doesn't exist?

For fighting, I'd go with a full rack, but for time on the range, it is a bit annoying to try and get a group and it's a dud. It's useful to have to ammo jew.

Thought I'd piggyback this CCW thread. I finally managed to purchase a Glock 19 and the 10 day waiting period ends next week. I live in a "will issue" county and plan to conceal carry if I can. Does anyone have any suggestions/warnings/holsters/recemondations for IWB carry? I'm a medium/small framed 5"7 140lb man.

What ammo are you shooting hombre? With all the 9mm I've put through my handguns and I haven't had that happen, but I'm usually shooting Federal 115-124 or fiocche 124. I suppose I could see tulammo or Winchester whitebox having this issue.

My buddy just got a glock 29 for $500. It will stop any threat that a pistol can stop in the lower 48. Abnormally big guys (4u), bears, feds or criminals wearing soft armor, bad guys behind cover. It's a sweet piece.

In any case OP, you dont seem like a pistol expert in search of a fancy specialists tool, so get a compact 9mm, maybe an mnp shield, sig p365, or glock 19 if you see a good deal.

I've tried all three

The shields have the best price point, good ergonomics and trigger, but a shitty roundcount for their size.

The glocks shoots the best by far and has the most firepower due to the longer polygonal barrel and high capacity magazine. Its the least concealable however. Its still not to bad.

The sig is the most concealable and utilitarian to carry. It holds 12 rounds while being VERY small. I cant shoot one holes with it like I can with a glock though.

Appendix or 3-4 o'clock carry?

.40 sw is a faggot round, go to 10mm or .45 if you wanna deal with recoil like that.

3 or 4 o clock. appendix seems not liked by lots of sources i see online

Was ideally looking for 9mm but have shit loads of .40 so it was another option. Down the road I was planning on getting a 10mm

Well Satan, I know there's a multitude of holsters available for the G19, but I'd recommend making sure you check some Kydex holsters as some can be shoddily made and can give you Glock leg. Simply read reviews or go to the local gun store and ask to try and fit them. My warning from before about clearing and disassembly should be reminded, since nobody reads the manual and people often forget. As for everything else, the G19 is pretty solid out of the box. There is a bunch of cosmetic to "tactical" accessories available, so you pretty much can make it how you want.

I normally shoot what's on sale online (usually Remmingshit Loose Excrement Ordinance Trainers). I try and shoot brass exclusively since I do try to save some for reloading at home. It's more of a bonus to have 2nd strike to shoot hard primers while plinking than racking sometimes.

It goes both ways. Lots of people dont like it and lots of people enjoy it. With your smaller frame and size of handgun you may find appendix will actually offer you easier concealment, but that's something you will have to determine. 3-4 o clock I would say find a hybrid leather/kydex holster that will give you some extra comfort, especially if you will be sitting in a car for a while on a day to day basis. If you decide to go appendix, all kydex/polymer can be plenty comfy, and a good way to increase both comfort and concealability is to velcro a cut piece of yoga block or foam that is appropriately sized for your body to your holster. Also angles the holster away from your bits/femoral when you are standing if that concerns you.
Please, for the love of God, clear your holster before sticking the gun back in it no matter where you carry, it's important.

If you get a 10mm you can shoot .40 from it. This is true for every 10mm pistol I know of.

I bought an LCR after my ex started becoming aggressive. I think it's okay but I worry about the ammo count.

What kind of jams are you having? I have a PT111 (it's a G2C but FDE and has a lifetime warranty basically and is a slightly older model) and I haven't had any issues at all yet. I've hardly shot it, though, what should I be on the lookout for?

>My state just passed a bill allowing permitless conceal carry in city limits
Why only in the city though? Does Idaho have weird, inverted crime rates that are higher out in the country?

Appendix is objectively the best carry position. It's faster shooting from concealment, easier to conceal larger framed guns, easier to retain in a fight and legit more comfortable with a good aiwb holster and a good belt.

Don't pay so much attention to randos on the interwebs tho, get into an armed combatives class like Shivworks ECQC where they actually give you a sim gun and safety gear and put you in scenarios where you end up having to draw fast and often times fight before you can get the gun out.

You know .40 cartriges headspace off the case mouth right?

For the love of God do not carry a 10mm. There's no good evidence to suggest that 9mm won't do the job against humans just as well, but 10mm recoil is going to make your follow up shots molasses slow, and you'll probably develop more of a flinch, and the cost of ammo will probably make you practice less.

10mm is useful if you're worried about literal grizzly bears and you're carrying hard cast lead ball ammo. Otherwise, hard pass. It's a fun meme but not actually practical.

As much as I love me some 10mm I agree. There are jacketed bullets that perform better than cast lead bullets tho, retain more of their mass as they pass through and penetrate better.

CZ P10C or if you are on a really tight budget an SD9VE

Forget the ccw and buy a gym membership. It’ll do more to save your life

Get yourself a nice .38 snubnose, more than enough gun for pretty much everyone

>10mm recoil is going to make your follow up shots molasses slow

That's entirely ammo dependent. Most defensive 10mm is loaded down to around .40 cal specs because it's entirely adequate for HD and meets FBI penetration tests in gel. The benefit of 10mm is when you need the extra power for bear defense you can load up the super hot hardcast 10mm for the woods, and the more mild 10mm JHPs for street carry.

This meme needs to end. Ballistic comparisons have shown .40 has the ideal penetration and stopping power balance.

Get a Beretta px4 compact or subcompact in .40 op. I love mine.

Cope

Cope with carrying your fudd or female caliber ydb.

Catching in the slide and failing to feed occasionally

They revised a bill allowing.conceal carry for 18+ to include cities.

OP here, can confirm I have anons back.

what do you feed it? and how often do you clean it lube it?

Blazer and every time I use it.

No need to be a beautiful and unique snowflake in the concealed carry world, popular is better. Get a glock or m&p shield in 9mm - they are reliable, reasonably priced, and all accessories and ammo will be way cheaper and more widely available than other guns

I own two glocks, have a crossbreed holster for one and an alien gear for the other. I like the crossbreed more but after locktite-ing the screws in the alien gear it works just fine as well but before the locktite the screws would come loose every 2-3 weeks

The only thing you’d drop is your napkin at the buffet. You’re so fat you can’t even throw a proper punch

>.40 sucks
>so get a .45 instead
don't choke to death on all that cock.

pretty sure glock is the only company with cheap mags
