East german here, you are full of shit, the parts of my family that were in the military during the cold all tell the same things; basically 90% of their planing and practises revolved around overruning the west in a first strike, they joke about that they had learned more about attacking certain areas in the west and had no plans of defending their own areas they were in. This also can be seen in the asymetric amount of soldiers and equipment like tanks, the warsaw pact was outnumbering the west by a great margin. At the same time, you had tanks in the west like Stridsvagn 103, Leopard 1 and AMX-30, all with great mobility and shitty armor and the purpose of ambushing an attacker and than withdraw over and over til you worn the attacker down. So take your historical negationism and shove it up your ass. There woild have been no chance for a reasonable first strike from the west on the warsaw pact. The reason Clancy always wears glasses in his photos is because he has virtually blind without them, he preferred sunglasses because they hid the coke-bottle nature of his lenses. He had really wanted to serve in the military but his eyesight was so poor that he was denied. His entire body of work is a neverserved fantasy session driven by his obsession with the military and his ardent patriotism. I like him and respect his stuff, but that's the reality.
