Early AR rifles did have wooden furniture. Not all of them, or even most of them, but the first rifles produced up until the mid 60s came with the option of wooden furniture. Portuguese AR10 included.

Kinda cool aesthetic. For practical purposes I don't think it even matters much unless you're super concerned about it being a precision rifle and free floating

It's a good range, even the brass jews are fun to talk to and shoot the shit with. Too bad it's a 2 hour and 30 minute drive for me to get there, but it beats any indoor range hands down.

Psssst, modern houses still use wood. A lot of it. Timbers make up the main structure and typically significant amounts of of wall paneling. The reason less and less wood is used, however, is because wood is expensive, not the other way around.
