The gif cuts out the part where the elk attacked the snowmobiler. The point being, a well-placed .40 caliber shot might be able to take down an elk or a moose, but you'll probably need a few follow up shots. And are you really that good of a shot with a handgun that you can hit the vitals multiple times at 50 yards, 100 yards, or whatever distance you hunt elk? Probably not.

Get yourself a 629 if you can get a scope attachment. If you can't, the 629 still kicks ass, but an optic is going to make shots with a handgun stupid easy, so optic compatibility should be your first priority.
