Has the MIG-25 ever shot down another aircraft in combat?

>Be American analyst, looking at pictures
>See a new silhouette on a Soviet airfield
>Oh shit, they might’ve made something good for once, let’s make sure we develop an effective counter
>Proceed to produce the best fighter ever designed
>Turns out the Russian plane is slavshit, like usual
>Fuck, what do we do with all these F-15s?

yeah that's the best part of it.
when america freaks out they actually conjure up something frightening.
russia just pretends and builds something big as fuck and calls it a day.

God, I wish Russia would just finish dying already so the west can stop worrying about its idiot cousin and focus on China.

are the tags on the nose for tourist flights?

Yeah, it's shot down an F-18, F-5, C-130, and others.

Fuck off vatnik.
Anyone with even a modicum of understanding of the English language can see through the thinly veiled ruse of that deliberately vague vocabulary.

I mean, the title is true. It did fool the west, just to the detriment of Russia’s interests.

When? And sauce

Here's how I think it went.

>Be Americans
"Hey, Burt. C'mere a sec."
"What's this?"
"I dunno, Steve. Looks pretty scary. Reckon it'll catch an Oxcart?"
"Hmm. Wings like that, maybe. Probably just fast enough to launch something crazy. Mach 2 plane plus Mach 3 missile..."
"Whoof."
"Yeah"
"Alright, time to step our game up."
>[F-X Program ensues, developing the most capable fighter aircraft in the world for 40 years]

Later.....

"Werrcome to Japan, firthy Russian"
>blyat
"Americans, come see Russian prane, arso gib miritary back."
"We'll think about it."
"Let's see here"
>Breaks out micrometer

Later...

"What an absolute pile of shit."
>Curb Your Enthusiasm theme plays

Link or its bs

Iraq had MiG-25s. They took down the F-5s and C-130 during the Iran Iraq war, and got one F-18 during Desert Storm. It’s worth noting that both Iraq and Syria lost a number of MiG-25s to F-15-mounted AIM-7s, so the F-18 incident seems to have been more of a fluke than anything. They were successful in deterring EF-111 flights at some points in the war, though.

Ah ok.
A 1:1 dogfight with an f18 vs foxbat would rarely end in a mig25 victory.
As a dogfighter the mig25 is garbage.
Mig29 not so much.

See under “operational history.”
Funnily enough, this makes the MiG-25 the only Russian-built plane to down an America aircraft since Vietnam.

True story: the foxbat was designed to counter sr71.
However, Russian turbine composites at the time were lacking. The foxbat could for a moment approach an sr71 in speed, but in doing so would melt its turbine blades and ruin the engine.

It is ironic, considering its not designed as a fighter.

>the foxbat was designed to counter sr71
And the B-70. We may have gotten our money's worth out of the two prototypes by convincing the Soviets to dump money into a countermeasure against something that never actually existed.
