HBO's Chernobyl

What does Jow Forums think of HBO's recently announced mini-series about the Chernobyl incident? Considering how good Generation Kill was I have high hopes for this one.

Looking forward to it.

Reminder:One firemans eyes changed from brown to bright blue in a day due to the rad levels that day

I'd say it's pretty Jow Forums because the cleanup effort was military and the bravery of those men cannot be forgotten. Some soldiers fighting in Afghanistan were even recalled from the front to go fight a new battle. Personally, I'd rather take my chances with the Muj. over radiation.
The series looks really interesting and well-produced (as is expected from HBO.)
One of the scenes in the trailer shows firefighters dumping their gear in a hospital. It's still there. youtube.com/watch?v=C4g3FkXUhx0

Also a quick reminder of how the whole thing happened:
>Let's run a test to see if we can put the reactor on the verge of a meltdown, cut the power, and then see if our backup generators have enough power to run the cooling systems
>It appears they cannot
>Oops
>Better use the control rods and shutdown the entire thing
>Oops the control rods being slammed into the melting reactor caused the whole thing to explode
>Better call the fire brigade and tell them we have a small fire

Attached: Chernobyl liquidators badge.jpg (348x354, 46K)

But, Comrade, we have achieved 5 year plan quota for heat generation in .000067 seconds. This marks a great victory for socialism!

In the age of political correctness. I believe the series will focus on the Trans black American CIA agent who is doing everything he can to save subhuman slavs from the oppression of the Soviet government. He will bring them to America with fireworks and flybys and them saying 'Allah bless America

also lets do this with reactors that use a design that is legendarily dangerously designed (and thats being generous)

Right before they melted. J/k
I have some steel in my skull and when I get x-ray I swear I feel it tingle. Told the tech this and he says it's not uncommon.

Spooky as fuck if true

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vladimir_Pravik

>insert control rods.
>control rods displace coolant.
>everything goes tits up even worse than it was before.
If only someone knew that when you put something in a liquid that the same volume of the liquid is displaced. I’m sure that was cutting edge science in the USSR though, can’t expect them to know the same stuff that the Greeks did over 2000 years before.

epic post

i like it better when it was called pu239 and oscar isaac was in it

God I know you're memeing but this fucking pisses me off.

This by HBO catering to an American audience there is no point in not pandering to your demographic. Let the Russian cry to themselves if they think HBO altered history. America would rather pay for a film glorifying the chosen race than some boring history clique.

Or were you pissed that the lead character is not named Isaiah Goldenstein?

There was a movie named China Syndrome, it's absolutely fantastic revolving around an incident in a newly opened Plant. It's old, but absolutely worth a watch, in case sb hasn't seen it yet.
If they bring Chernobyl to Generation Kill levels, this shit could give me nightmares since I'm absolutely fucking scared of radiation...

Attached: chinasyndrome.jpg (1000x642, 199K)

Nah you messed one bit up, they would clearly be praising the communists for their sacrifice and blaming Trump for the meltdown.

Fuck this gay earth

Is anyone else bothered by the fact they're doing it with British actors speaking English-accented English.

I've read it had something to do with the rods having graphite tips. It was meant for better piercing but they also became part of the reaction due to the high heat.

That's my own complaint, not using Russian and Ukrainian actors with subtitles. Still, I'd rather there be regular English than something done with a stereotypical accent.

Generation Kill was made before the (((current Year))). If you think this mini-series wont be about "how women and trans gay people saved the soviet union" you just don't understand the times we're living in.

That sounds familiar, probably one of the contributing factors. I just remember reading that after I saw the trailer and googled it.

Holy fuck the implications are big AF if true.

I'm full of steel and aluminium splinters and basically not allowed in the MRI machines.
X-rays are fairly monstrous amounts of ionising radiation, so there's all kinds of electron fuckery going on in metals that might cause some kind of tingle. Kind of like the old spoon in a microwave :)

Ep 2 in this
>en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uranium_–_Twisting_the_Dragon's_Tail
Fairly sure its on youtube somewhere but the Chernobyl bit is pretty nuts.

Imagine having your brain this poisoned, to be unable to look at absolutely anything and think about nothing but "how would SJW's ruin it if they could?"
What leads people to this? Genuine mental illness?

Attached: 1522598417571.png (878x900, 352K)

Those alarms are absolutely terrifying.

Yeah, in Generation Kill their gay guy was actually gay and everyone was allowed to mock him relentlessly for it. As it should be. Today they would make him the hero of the story and have everyone learn to love him more and more throughout the series until in the end Rudy had an entire harem of marines fighting for their opportunity to lick his balls after a week in the desert without a shower.

>What leads people to this? Genuine mental illness?
Living in 2019 with open eyes and hating it more than anything in the world. I don't think it's a mental illness, just a full blown constant nostalgia attack for the days when people weren't shoving shit down your throat 24/7 in some kind of weird obsession with diversity. So I mean, maybe, but it's no worse than Hollywood's endless desire to insert SJW shit.

No, observation of actual happenings lead people to these conclusions. And recent history supports their claims. Just because you bury your head in the sand doesn't mean it doesn't go on. Must be bliss to be so bluepilled and cucked.

ill be canceling it before that

Stellan Skarsgard is Swedish.

>One major female character
>Not a single non-white actor
>Series attempting to be a very accurate and thus horrific representation of the worst nuclear disaster in human history
>>"How can you not see that this is nigger tranny propaganda you bluepilled niggerlover! REEEEEEE!"
There's a difference between calling out something for obvious trying to get leftist good boy points and actively wishing something was leftist propaganda just so you can be angry at it, and get even angrier because it isn't.

IIRC the test was going fine until there was a random power surge and then they proceeded to fuck up everything after that

Protip: the people who complain about those things are SJWs. Just because they're right-wing doesn't change that.
It's no different than "ugh. Another thing featuring only white men."

Attached: 1503079878746.jpg (517x488, 47K)

he wasn't gay though

And also not wait until tomorrow when the highly skilled and knowledgeable techs are around. The C-team can handle it, right?

Christ. You have to intentionally try to fuck up as bad as the Soviets did

Watch Greenpeace and anti-nuke activists use this to scare people off nuclear power.

This. Fruity Rudy is actually cool as fuck in real life. He even has an Instagram and posts neat shit.

Imagine being a disgusting inbred Kike like you.

Somehow it will have a whole season on how a gay black transexual with adopted Hispanic kids fought the radiation to save a room with 2 female lesbian technicians that stayed when all the straight white males fled.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individual_involvement_in_the_Chernobyl_disaster

>t's old, but absolutely worth a watch
It's starring Jane Fonda - aka Hanoi Jane the traitorous whore. I sure wont ever watch a movie with her.
Also it's your typical "let's make nuclear power industry look bad" movie. It's shit to the molten core.

Considering the BBC already did it and it came out fine, no.

>t. trannyboi

BBC did it once for a docudrama

Honestly watching the trailer the whole thing just looks like an expansion of the docudrama.

Is that from being around metalworking equipment, or were you in some kind of explosion?

Attached: cat_uniform.jpg (453x604, 57K)

BE AFRAID
nuclear power n shiet man
real scary
dont do that it

many pilots were recalled from afghan frontlines. when it comes bio-robots, opposite happened. they were offered 1 year in war or few weeks in the zone with few minutes of that on the roof of the plant.

That's what they did in the death of Stalin they use different English accents for English audiences and I guess it gives off the same effect of actual native dialects and accents just nativised for English speakers

>Being this blackpilled

3 explosions, also a bullet spall but they mostly dug all that out after a few extra surgeries.

Also, can't forget that this test was supposed to have been completed BEFORE the reactor ever went online, but was skipped so they could get the project done sooner and get rewards and shit.
As others have stated, this level of fuck up is only possible in the Soviet Union

I know, its lame, but do you have a better alternative? No.

That's right. Good elaboration, pilots were wanted for their skill, so they were brought in, and those who would have been infantry in Afghanistan were offered an alternative.
Unfortunately, those men had little idea how dangerous things truly were and even those who did know just went about their duties to get the job done. Post-9/11 reminds me of it in some ways with officials either ignoring (or lying about) the air quality and first responders went about doing their jobs, with many dying in the time after. Very sad that in the CIS nations that many of those men who cleaned up the area received little/no government aid.

It really is amazingly incompetent. It's perhaps the biggest example of how bad the Soviets could be at times with their hubris and secrecy. Rushed worked, money going missing, party higher ups getting rewards, and then overconfidence that their technology could control something that demanded far more respect.

This is the stupidest post I've seen regarding BWRs

Should have gotten Peter Stormare

Attached: 1556501350931.jpg (885x899, 146K)

Looks like a great man v nature thriller, but I hope to god it doesn't get popular. Nuclear has been set back as it is.

What happened was the control rods had graphine tips which actually increases the reaction for a moment when inserted, the arms lowering them got stuck half way when the servos failed from the heat.

The director actually commented on this saying that both finding enough Serbs with good acting ability or training that many people to have convincing accents would take far too long so they decided to just let suspension of disbelief handle it like it does for why they're all speaking English in the first place.

I can't wait, and I pee on the butthurt russkies crying sjw wolf.

Attached: Ki_1Q47uaMk.png (640x612, 342K)

Well that's just like your flawed opinion man...

have you people even watched hbo? its all crap, even without all the lefty shit. their top 'drama' turned into a comedy and most movies they show are snoozefests. that channel was kill sometime after boardwalk empire ended.

Attached: qlnVygz.jpg (533x800, 126K)

You forgot that they manually locked out the automatic control rods past the point of never lock out more than this. The automatic system was actually keeping up with their retardedness until it ran out of control rods it could use.

The real cause of the accident was two operators that each had control over one aspect of the system and didn't communication what they were doing to the other so they were reacting to each others' changes in a time delay. Oh the amount of energy is low I'll reduce the secondary cooling loop to give more to the primary.
Oh the amount of energy is low I'll remove more control rods to produce more heat.
OMG I have too much heat, I'll max out the secondary cooling.
OMG I have too much heat I'll max out the control rods.
Strange I have even less energy than I started with. Better turn off the secondary loop.
Strange I have even less energy than I started with. Better take out every control rod.
What I can't make any power to run my pumps and the heat is going way up... uh quick turn on the diesel generators.
What I don't have any power to run my pumps... uh better SCRAM this reactor and get all the control rods in fast!

Reactor undergoes a fizzle (tried to explode like a nuclear bomb but has the totally wrong geometry for it) that creates a massive steam explosion.
Check the RAD counter in the control room. Okay that's not too bad it's only 400mREM. (gauge maxes out at 400mREM).

>What leads people to this?
Painful experience.

Disposable fabric respirators are NOT safe if you're in a zone with hazardous particles.

>China Syndrome
>Jane treason Fonda
>Anti nuke smear and fear

wtf is wrong with you

HB hO is using Britfag actors for everything.
kinda wondering if it is an anti American /pro mudslime/SJW/ social engineering plan or program.
IE, sand nigger infested/ no guns uk, lets portray them super happy status for US audience etc and so forth.

Another *merishit h*llywood bastardization of real life events, most likely stuffed to the brim with *merishithole brainwashing propaganda. Fuck off *meristench scum.
If anyone wants to watch something actually good on Chernobyl, they're free to watch actual documentaries (no, not *merishit Discovery channel "documentaries"). Reality is much more interesting than *merifaggot h*llywood loads of diarrhea.

Look at this *meriretard imbecile thinking Chernobyl was a nuclear explosion.

Just watch real documentary filming.
youtu.be/lQ7Qng_pCxQ

It can be pretty good, but only if they highlight how fucking retarded the entire lead-up to the incident was. If not this is going to be another anti-nuke show pushed by some shitty writers organization.

>current year
>have to go to Jow Forums to discuss movie and tv shows because /tv/ is just capeshit and GOT

DESU I havent been this hyped in a while. Chernobyl is a topic that fastanites the hell out of me because Im so intrigued and terrified of radioactive disasters. The idea there is this invisible presence that can kill you slowly and horridly without you knowing. It can pass through anything, it absorbs into objects and people. The trailers were superb, especially the first one with that a haunting 'nimanye, nimanye!' over and over again. Ive noticed a sharp rise in radiation related videos on YT, things about readcotrs, nuclear fission etc so people are obviously curious about it.

No fucking way. See its shit like this that astounds me. Like everything from the 3 guys who had to dive under the reactor into the containted water to drain it before the meltdown got to it, the fact that the fire fighters uniforms are still in the basement of the hospital in Chernobyl, the Forrest turned red from all the radiation, liquidators literally throwing chunks of graphite off the roof

I gotta admit I wish i understood how fission and reactors work because it makes no sense to me.

No one would watch it if they used slavs. British is like the go to accent for western films where they are depicting characters from a country that isnt English speaking.

no one gives a shit about gay ass british people and no ones going to watch unauthentic shit or hbo once comedy of thrones is over.

I will be. Its got Stellan Skarsgard in it so its automatically gona be good.

These details make it no less embarrassing and condemning of sputnik ignorance and overwhelming stupidity ON TOP of the already mediocre slabik grasp on science and technology.

youtu.be/Jhn3J12Vx3Y
Like here, at 1:45 you can see fire engines of first responders, who wasn't aware what happening and take lethal dose of radiation in few minutes.

But Sergi your kremlin is showing

The energy released is from the same source, just incomparable rates.

What really fascinates me is that the very people who filmed the disaster either died within days, weeks or years of doing so. Some literally flew right over the top of the reactor and filmed the red hot fuel rods and molten core literally not knowing what they were doing. Radiation was burned into the film. Its insanity. Thats whats so scary about radiation is you can see it, hear it, feel it, some say you can taste it but its not anything thats going to set alarm bells and once youve received a lethal dose thats its. Theres no going back and by the time you relaise it youre already dead but thats only the beginning. Your body is destroyed at a molecuale level, your DNA strands are shattered, You turn into liquid.

The fire fighters who went in first were buried in welded zinc coffins and buried in cemeent. Imagine that. Youre final reseting place in a sealed metal coffin, encase in concrete. Your body never being able to fully return to the earth. The coffins would literally just be fell of biological sludge now.

Scroll to the bottom of the page, go to chapter 1 and so on. Surprised her site is up after all these years.

Einstein himself said that nuclear power was "a hell of a way to boil water."

Eternal reminder that nuclear energy is clean, safe and a renewable. Coal plants output more radiation into the atmosphere during normal operation, looks up death tolls comparing nuclear to literally any other energy source. Nuclear waste is mostly re usable (especially with modern gen plants) and the non usable stuff can be entirely negated by putting a few meters of concrete around it with 0% chance of accident. Chernobyl happened because of lack of safety measures and modern plants literally could not have the same thing happen to them. Fukushima happened because of where it was built, which could obviously be avoided by not building it in a fucking disaster prone area, also it killed literally 1 person.

Only very recently solar power has reached a point where its a seriously viable alternative but for decades before that nuclear was better in almost every category then anything else. We could be living in an alternative present in which the world embraced nuclear and we wouldn't have to deal with climate change in the current year, the greenies and retards who protested so hard against nuclear may literally be the reason for a mass accidental genocide when the waters rise and millions of third worlders drown.

Seems like a good time to buy a few shares of the up and coming nuclear energy companies

isnt the planet already running out of the materials necessary to make solar panels? i read that somewhere a while ago but it could have been a bunk article.

This, nuclear energy is the future. Greenfag retards need not apply.
>Fukushima happened because of where it was built
No, it happened due to an equally retarded human error. The designers are not retards, the plant was perfectly capable of withstanding tsunamis and eqrthquakes. It was the careless personnel that didn't operate the plant's security systems who's at fault of the disaster.

There was that kind of heat, bit a nuclear explosion produces even more. Look at the kind of shit it melted.

It was, but then we figured out how to make solar panels without using literally tons of cadmium.

It did. The pile fizzled.

The test was to see if the fuckton of inertia the turbines have could be used to power the coolant pumps before the diesel generators came online in a power outage event (it took way too long to be acceptable).
The supervisor for this test ordered the techs to break several safety protocols despite their concerns, because he was trying to protect his lame ass from previous bad decisions regarding this test. Up until he ordered ALL of the control rods pulled up, nothing bad would have happened (apart his ass being on the line for fucking up the production plan).
This one final bad decision is what started a chain of events, which led to the explosion.
Unlike Fukushima, this reactor was running in some serious overdrive (nobody knows how much exactly, all meters were pegged... Reasonable estimates go past 4x the nominal power) when it exploded its guts out.
The cleanup crew had to move chunks of the actual reactor core, that was fully active just hours ago. Some of the dead received their lethal dose in mere minutes.

>HURR DURR LET'S BUILD A REACTOR UNDER A TIN SHACK
>HURR DURR LET'S NOT TELL OUT POWERSTATION OPERATORS THE INHERENT FLAWS IN OUR REACTOR DESIGNS
>HURR DURR LET'S RUN A CRITICAL SAFTEY TEST IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING NIGHT WITHOUT COMMUNICTING WITH EACH OTHER AND WITHOUT PROPER SAFTEY PROCEDURES
Why were the Soviets so dumb?

Holy crap I’m excited. I love Chernobyl documentaries and hbo will do a show properly if anybody.
I’ll want to kill myself if they go out of their way to find the few gay/trans liquidators, make their irrelevant to the show sexuality a focal point, and turn it into a political statement. I’ll be done with hbo, probably forever.

Wondering if it will be empowered minority woman saving humanity from russian nuclear holocaust or white toxically masculine nuclear energy fearmongering.

>Despite seeing the fuel and graphite scattered around, he still believed the reactor was intact.
Fucking hell, I knew that the accident happened because of some retard doing their own experiments and overriding the safety protocols but that... how can one man be so fucking stupid and stubborn?

Is it fact or fiction?
