Why would you ruin a perfectly good arisaka by drilling into the receiver

I imagine the proud GI who brought that rifle home.
In my fantasy,the GI killed the zipper head who was issued that rifle.

No, It's been re-barrel to .25-06, tuh get them deer.

I didn't do anything to it, we just picked it up.
The only original parts are the receiver, Floor-plate/Triggerguard and bolt.

By the numbers it's an early production rifle from the "Koishikawa (Tokyo)" Arsenal. Pre war gun, it really is a shame. When my dad first talked about buying it I told him it was an abomination and I was gonna post it here so people could make fun of it.

There were millions of these and as issued they were ugly as sin w/sheet ergonomics/ I turned a 6.5 into a sweet 308 Mannlicher that dropped my 1st deer, cost me $37.00, including the new 1903 barrel and williams sights

I've removed the scope and mount now, taking a couple more pictures. Who did this drilled *right through* the markings. G.I. Joe may have had an axe to grind.
