shockwave sbs or braced, 50 Beowulf sbr or braced, an m1 garand or one of those 762x54r aks would serve hunting purposes as well. I've seen some cz bolt guns in dangerous game calibers that would probably serve that purpose for a reasonable price as well.

people in this thread will probably say 10mm or .44 or some shit. imo a long gun had more power and versatility. on a hike those definitely have their place, but it's a comprise for having a holsterable package.

45-70 is a meme for bear country. The VAST majority of bear attacks happen from a bear charging from brush with around 40 yards. Do you really want to be fucking with a janky lever action? Semi-auto is your best option. Pref. .308 or .454.

This is bait right? Black bears are fucking tiny compared to Brown bears, especially that one. Also it's easy to startle any animal that doesn't notice you, I'm sure even that tiny black bear could actually fuck that cat up.
Furthermore, Brown bears and Black bears behavior and reaction to certain things differs quite a bit, and can be different based on gender of the bear, time of year, and how empty their stomach is.

Unironically this, with an emphasis on the "s" in dogs, multiple dogs barking should be enough to keep them away, and if for some reason, they are pressured enough to come into the yard anyways, it will take multiple dogs to force them out if it comes down to a fight, but most bears that desperate are starving and weak comparitively.
