My understanding is that they don't plan on using them in direct combat due to how much better the radar is than anything else they have. It's safer to have them task out cheaper fighters and not get them shot down. That's assuming their air force would fight at all, which they might not, given how much of a waste of resources it would be. I don't think Iraq tried to use their fighters in 2003.

And then just keep fighting for the next decade or two until the US gives up and goes home and then you win. Easy.
Not sure if an Iranian insurgency will fair too well, to be honest. At least not as well as people keep thinking. Their funding, planning, and training was what made the Iraqi one so tough. Also, Iran has a recent history of a fairly stable “democracy” (overarching theocratic dictatorship aside), so there will likely be some draw to return to stability quickly, unlike Iraq or Afghanistan. It’ll still be bad, and is likely not worth the cost, but I don’t think it’ll be as apocalyptic as critics keep claiming it will be.
