Eh, I can think of worse options than a Super Sabre.

At least it's not a russian death trap.

I'll drive it!

>He thinks we would be offended by this prospect.

Early to mid Cold War jets are my fetish.

that's statistically more lethal than russian roulette

Not the way I play

Sounds like a plan!
Oh god please no.

We had these threads already, OP. Yesterday it was the M1 Carbine. In the evening, the Hustler. Now, this?

A-4 Skyhawk
Best little jet

Are we doing CAS? Because in that case it's literally perfect.

If we are going to downgrade, i call dibs on this one.

Here's your plane, bro

Attached: Tucano.jpg (1200x739, 102K)

my planefu has returned

Attached: F-4 VF-161.jpg (758x448, 96K)

>implying that counts as a downgrade

Sure. Paki F86 shot down a Poo MiG21 in the 70s so it's possible to 1v1 newer planes in a gunfight.

Considering the F-86 is literally meant to dogfight and can well turn inside a MiG-21, that's no surprise.

DESU I think the whole point of the T-X advanced trainer program was to turn them into cheap as shit light fighters in the first place, so if the USAF actually ever did "run out" they would have these

Attached: PSSL56PYOVCCZDQ4IQGQUNMQEI.jpg (1200x960, 138K)

If you're a leaf or retarded german pilot with 2 flight hours yeah it is

I'd rather an F-5, but sign me up, I'll take it.

You do know that not even the US wanted to use it, right? It was a terrible design for a fighter and it's well documented Lockheed was given the contract for it purely through corruption.

there's literally nothing wrong with the F-100

All trainers are meant to have a light attack role if need be

The F-20 Tigershark would've won, but Lockheed pumped tons of money into everybody's asses and kept harping about dedicated interceptors (which eventually proved a pointless idea) like the Mirage III and Lightning.

the F-16 turned out to be far better in the end due to it's modularity and absolutely fucking bonkers maneuverability

US Navy F-104 is a rather unique snowflake.

>no wifi
>no blutooth

why even

The fact that Boeing T-X is a purpose built trainer was big factor in its selection over Lockheed-Martin/KAI T-50.

If all I get to do is go full kamikaze in a thud my life will still be satisfying.

What the fuck are you talking about? The F-20 is over 20 years newer than the F-104, they didn't ever compete for US contracts.

Wish I had been born in the 50s-60s so I could have signed up for any random shit job at an airbase in the middle of bumfuck nowhere anywhere in the world just to be able to drool over Cold War fast jets.
>Friend's grandad traveled around the world with family in tow as he went from airbase to airbase dealing with maintenance on Phantoms
Never ever

Mirage III's had lots of users and it was a versatile fighter with dedicated ground attack versions, it pretty common until early 2000's when those started to run out of flight hours. That is before we get into derived designs like Mirage 5 and IAI Kfir. Northrop plane F-104 and Mirage III competed against was F-5. Those too are still around.

This as well.

>range
>5,500ft
well good to know it can fly at least 1.7 km before having to refuel

?

>implying you'd ever get to guns range if you tried to dogfight a modern fighter
nigga fighter pilots just use radar and missiles these days, dogfighting is an academic exercise for them.

*gets shot down by some arab with a first gen shoulder launched missile before the pilot even gets a chance to see an enemy aircraft*

are they using original engines?

Hey, works for me, modern planes are boring as hell anyway.

Attached: Convair_F-106A_Delta_Dart_1.jpg (3000x2007, 1.45M)

what is the oldest mothballed plane US has in storage that would be actually used to fly combat missions?

Nope. They're using General Electric CJ610s.

That’s an A-model so ehhh
Give me a B or D and it’s on.

Prolly a B-52

*sabre Dance intensifies*

i should've specify that i meant fighter jet

Oh baby, the OG of wild weasels has returned.

In all honesty though, my reflexes are dogshit:
Give me a F-111 with an AWACS/EWAR suite

Attached: zf3k160.jpg (2160x1449, 257K)

ah yes, the scat fetishist plane

they have shit ton of old F-16s

Cool, I get the unguided nuclear air-to-air missiles right? Can't let Ivan's Tupolev's slip through the cracks just because we're afraid of a little broken arrow incident on the lower 48, now can we?

Beats the shit out of a Tejas

Just clicking through Wikipedia it would seem like trainer aircraft modified to carry a bomb and gun pod payload constitutes 85% of developing countries' air capabilities.

but are those the oldest fighters that would be used?
there aren't any F4s?

come at me, bro

At leats it isn't a Fi 103R

Keep in mind that you can build a new fighter jet a lot faster than you can train a new pilot to basic combat proficiency, this rather limits the appeal of the "send them up in anything that can get off the runway" approach.

If you pulled one of these old birds out of a museum or boneyard and updated as much as you could, including giving it the most advanced weapons compatible, you’d still have a better weapon than half the countries on earth.

Twin tails w/ adjustable-ramp intakes is GOAT
It's neat to see how everyone wanted it but was limited by advances in structural design

I sexually identify as an F-104G starfighter
My only goal is to collide with a foreign object at my top speed of mach 2.01

>Twin tails w/ adjustable-ramp intakes
This is barely a defining feature of an aircraft seeing how all three of them belong to completely different classes.

Anybody need a sip sip?

Im down af to go fast af boi

>constitutes 85% of developing countries' air capabilities.
they have very little need for something like an F15

Russia isn’t the enemy you retards

We all know the real enemy is the unrelenting Islamic hoards

none of what you said can even remotely be supported by primary sources. meanwhile germans were too cheap to give their 17 yearold pilots with no flight hours manuals because they didn't buy them.

>F-15E exists and is typically a big bomb truck
>MiG-25 regularly used to lob long-range ordnance at ground targets
Any aircraft that isn't super-specialized can be considered multirole nowadays

we need to bring tactical hot air balloons back

>type lockheed corruption into google
>literally a wikipedia page for it

lol

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_bribery_scandals

none of what you SAID can even remotely be supported by PRIMARY sources

Id pay money to flying in one amd go weeeeeeeeee

I once made the point that we could literally take the national aviation museum in VA and use only the planes within to defeat most militaries

>lockheed was court ordered to pay millions of dollars because they were caught in bribary scandals

I guess the US government just made it up then?

And the German gov. And the Japanese gov...

Attached: images(62).jpg (300x168, 11K)

Carl Kotchian, the former president of Lockheed Aircraft Corp. whose admission of paying millions of dollars in bribes to foreign government officials led to the imprisonment of Japan's prime minister and political upheaval in several countries in the 1970s, has died. He was 94.

latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2008-dec-21-me-kotchian21-story.html

There's literal testimony of Lockheed officials testifying before Congress about this you fucking retard

This doesn't have anything to do with the point. These three aircraft are nothing like each other.

I wouldn't mind learning to dance
